If you were smart and shooting (haha) for an army contract, the winner would take the existing M4 and M249 and just modify it...... the US loves just modifying things to make it cheaper even if less effective.

there will be a ton of ammo for the foreseeable future...just imagine how many 5.56 shooters there are.

The fightlite mcr would help modify an m4 into a saw. Not sure if they've looked at adopting it.
