Just got this one recently and took some quick pictures to share. Its a 1891 Danzig updated to the Patrone S. Everything seems to match down the the screws, although the bolt head is unnumbered. Also no unit markings unfortunately.

Nice clean looking rifle.

I have three of them. One is a 1890 dated Suhl and the other two have been altered in Turkey. all three of them have .323 bores and they all shoot better than my old eyes can hold.

Their actions are as smooth as oiled glass.

Your particular rifle is in very nice condition.

I like them very much. They're only real drawback to the K98s were the necessary use of enblocs. Mind you, I haven't heard many complaints about the other rifles that used enblocs right up to end of the Viet Nam War and later. The Turks got around this issue by converting their 88s to accept the charger model and machined the mag wells to install a spring loaded mag lip to hold the cartridges in place. These usually have a stamped, press fit cover over the bottom eject port on the magwell.

Great rifles, thanx for the pics.

Is cocking piece updated? Is serial of same font? Bolt head is easily separated and first part to loose, no wonder it is replacement. Congrats on nice rifle, I know you have been looking for one for long.

Yes cocking piece is updated. I'll have a closer look at fonts, but just at a glance the bolt handle and safety are same font not sure about other bolt parts.

The conversion to 88/05 was done in pre-war Germany, not in Turkey. The Turks used these unaltered until the late 1930's, when they started turning them into something resembling the 1938 pattern mauser.

The germans also made an 88/14 where charger guides were added by welding metal to the receiver and machining charger clip guides into the welded material. They are cruder and date to the early ww1 period. Rare in Canada.

Has anyone seen an 88/05 all matching non Turkish?

I doubt it.They changed hands so frequently and went thru so much use they had to be repaired at least once in last 120 years. That is unless they were used somewhere as parade/ceremonial rifles and stored afterwards.
