Which side saddle do you run and why

Velcro is jumping out at me for a fast reload and the ability to stash them anywhere but any downfalls to this system?
Does applying Velcro to the receiver cause any issues?

Tried them all, and ended up going to a belt mounted system like the California comp. I found it's easier to get them from the belt than fiddle with the gun. I found the elastic on the Velcro ones holds the shells very tight to prevent them from coming out, it also means it is a bit of a struggle to get them out. The solid ones are a bit of a pain because of the width and if you are putting the gun in a hard case. I found the tacstar ones actually worked better than the Mesa. The mesa uses a rubber tube to put pressure on the shells to retain them. I found even with the heavier duty one (they did come with 2 types of tube) it wasn't as secure. Also the mesa ones they don't recommend storing shells in it for any length of time because the rubber thingy gets a memory and loses it's ability to hold the shells

Great info thanks, where did you get the belt?

California Comp works speed stripper. Brownells carries them, but there are a number of different kinds that the 3 gun people use. They are all faster than any sidesaddle

I use a belt and vest combo. Usually just my vest, which has a dump pouch and molle shell cards.

Never liked side saddles due to the uneven weight distribution it causes on the gun.

For side saddles, I purchased an asgard defense setup (they ship to Canada) All the advantages of a rigid saddle, 95% of the benefits of a velcro side saddle, with none of tghe issues/challenges of a velcro side saddle (no sticky goo, no peeling velcro, no saddles bending into C shapes, etc).

I like a Velcro card shell holder, S&J’s pouch with 3 cards to be exact. Have picked up a couple extra cards as needed and have a Velcro belt sleeve that will hold up to an 8 shell card when I don’t feel like carrying around the pouch. Works well for me, I like the Molle system though.

This is what most find out after trial and error , and if I might add , a dump pouch or sling bag [ man bag ] work great if you want to carry more then just a few extra rounds .

Which brand card do you have and where from?

tried several and eventually removed them for all my shotguns. Don't like the way they change the weight and feel of the gun.

For just carrying extra rounds (not speed loading) I use these excellent 90's (?) era Australian Military bandoleers that have snap pouches. Five pouches that hold 3x 12 ga. 2 3/4" shells each. Sit really flat/low profile. Love those things.

Also use the Olongapo Outfitters rig and the 5.11 shotgun pouches.

For speed loading still not happy but messing with belt rig.

I like my 6 round leather belt loop rig for being fast to access while having much better retention than competition style setups.

It looks similar to this but is black, situates the loops higher and has a "shelf" below the loops to keep the shells from sliding down too far.

That is the same type of rig that I use for cowboy action, although mine are grouped in twos to use in a double.

If you're looking for something that can be grabbed and attach to your shotgun quickly, then Velcro cards work well. I have the same S&J shell holder as mentioned above and they work great. As far as the tape leaving a mark on the receiver if removed, they work so good I've never considered removing so I can't help you there. The pouch and 3 cards hold 18 rounds total and come with velcro/tape for each card. I have one Velcro on the receiver of my 12.5" Grizzly and one on the butt stock, which allows me to mount 12 additional rounds to it in a few seconds.

I ended up ditching the side saddles as they added weight, held the shells too loose/tight, and threw the balance of the gun off (especially with short barrels).
Ended up purchasing a micro rig

Used it for a couple of years now and it works pretty nice. I store a box of shells in the pouch and remove them when I get to the range.
Can add another card to the front of the pouch using the velcro pad or anything else for that matter.

While not nearly as fast as side saddles it does hold a lot more shells and gets it off of the gun.

YMMV
