Recently picked up a brand new 10/22 carbine with the barrel band and put on a nice Burris 3x9 scope. Finally got it out shooting the other day and couldn’t believe how inaccurate it was at 50 yards. I only had federal blue box with me but I was getting 2 and 3 inch groups from a steady rest. Is this normal accuracy for a 10/22 or is there something I can try to increase the accuracy. I bought some CCI standard and mini mags to try.

Try different ammo. Pretty much any cci offering other than stingers should shrink those groups considerably. Also check the torque on the takedown screw and scope rings and bases. 2-3" at 50 isn't exactly terrible but it's not good either. I've never had a stock 10/22 that couldn't do 1 -1/4" after some tinkering and ammo testing.

Yes that is what I have experienced with the Ruger 10/22. They have horrible accuracy.

Different ammo will likely tighten up the groups a bit. As stated above I would check your takedown screw.

But yeah that’s what I would expect from a Ruger.

Terrible triggers too. About the only thing a 10-22 has going for it, is the reliability. If you want accuracy quit dickin around with semi autos and get a good bolt action.

I would give it a bit of time to settle down before you call in inaccurate also I would not call Federal champion ammo a very accurate ammo. Most of my stock 10/22 rifles are more then capable of sub 1 inch at 50 yards with the right ammo. Of course each one prefers a different ammo. but none of them do well with Federal blue box bulk. I like to call it friends and family ammo because it is good cheap ammo for when you let your friends or family shoot your guns and accuracy is not a concern. As mentioned above check your take down screw and make sure it is set to the proper torque and make sure your scope is not coming loose.

Good luck

Federal blue box is my least favorite 10/22 ammo. Toss the barrel band and try a few others. Now if it won't shoot cci ar tactical.... That's not a good sign.

And yeah if you're used to nice triggers, the stock 10/22 trigger sucks. But any stock 10/22 should shoot 5 shots into an inch at 50 yards, give or take. First you have to find the right ammo.

Does "reliable" include the new 10/22s also? They sure look cheaper than the older ones.

I tried about a dozen brands of regular ammo not target in 2 different 10/22s one day and 1 1/4" was best and 3.5 was worst. CCI blazer seemed to work well in both but try many brands before you give up.
