Russia is melting German WW2 milsurp and armor.

Russia is under sanctions, also this move was not about making money. Russian military temple built using German steel. Political bs if you ask me. Sure, milsurp will gain value but it will also prevent younger people from getting into milsurp and WW2 reenactment. Plenty of younger guys in our group. Most of them cant afford non RC K98 but can save up enough in couple of months to get 800-950 RC. Price jump to lets say 1300-1500 for an RC will seriously set all those guys back big time.

3 or so years ago I was looking for a RC k98, I think they were going for about 850 in the stores, got a vz24 from Lever arms for 350 instead. Found a RC k98 later for 650.
Interesting how the market works. While the vz24s are in better condition, less were made, are functionally identical, they are worth way less.
Exactly! Money is good but getting new people to join in is better. I just picked up pre war 98 from a friend, my old dou is going to one of younger reenactors for good price. I could probably make 300-400 by posting it here but Id rather have +1 in our reenactment unit once one of them becomes of age and gets their PAL.
Just go the the Kubinka tank museum, melt down the tanks, demolish the building, and build the Military Christian Temple. There must be a serious lack of Military Christian Temple in Kubinka, how did they manage before?

Weird. I saw two online stores this year with 699 price tag IIRC. About 5 years ago I picked late war, shellac free one with original goodies for 500. Than again, I was also lucky to find large bin full of K98 pouches for 15 a pop, both, early and late war ones. Out of all places that thing sat in biggest gun store in Toronto.
The Nazi's did a number for terrible things to the Russian people during the war, I do not blame them for this, they probably have a ton of this stuff is storage all over the country. I commend Putin for not trying to turn a profit on the past misery of the nation. Do something good with it, instead of selling it to private collectors, I am sure the Russian military and war museum's are full of the best stuff, the rest can just go away.

I guess prices in stores might have varied here in BC.
Didn't discover cgn and the ee till later.
I just couldn't bring myself to pay so much for a rough, pitted rifle. But as I waited to find one I liked, prices kept growing. My suggestion to anyone reading this, in the market for a k98...... Don't wait, they aren't getting any cheaper. Of course a deal might pop up every now and then, at below market value price, but you need to have luck on your side, as many others are on the prowl also.
Just look at the ee, stuff that's a good price sells in mere minutes.
I was born and raised in USSR but I dont have any issues with wearing German uniform and carrying German rifle during historical reenactment, Im not the only Russian/Ukrainian/Belorussian in our group. I also dont mind wearing soviet uniform despite the fact that my grandfather who fought from 41 to 45 was arrested in 45 in Germany and ended up spending 7 years in Gulag instead of going home. Another thing, there are thousands of WW2 reenactors who do German in Eastern Europe. Im reading posts on Russian gun and reenactors forums. 90% of people calling this decision idiotic and ridiculous.
Maybe not here but like I said, there are thousands if not tens of thousands of people back home who German firearms or reenact German army. Political ideas and historical artifacts are two different things. I for example heard horror stories about occupation of my home town as well as stories about people from my street who were picked up by NKVD at night and were never seen again. Most of these people, including myself have/had relatives who fought and relatives who lived in occupied areas. I

this act follows suit of history with melting down the opponents guns to make bells in time of peace, like bells used to be melted to make cannon in times of war. Germany was by far Russia's greatest foe in history and to build their military temple out of the weapons of there greatest opponent is tribute to both sides though mostly to the Russian side.
Its not about value of individual rifles. Also there are decades more of AK variants that possibly could fill the same storage depots and be much more useful should the surplus stores be called back into duty.
