Russia is melting German WW2 milsurp and armor.

The new building will be Soup Nazi Haunted, just like the car in the movie Christine!
Beware Komrades! Lol

Unfortunately this is not a joke. Minister of defence announced that government gave green light to start melting German small arms and armor. Steel will be used to build military Christian temple in Kubinka. Construction will start in 2020.

Anyone know exactly what they have stored away or what exactly they will be melting down for this?

Government itself probably doent know exact numbers of war trophy weapons they have. rticle I saw said "Wehrmacht small arms, artillery and armored vehicles", it didnt specify what kinds or numbers.

31,000 dead in Canada and on US soil from War of 1812. Hope PM Truedope and Pres.Trump do anything as stupid as destroying our historical items from our past conflict. The real estate expansionists cause enough damage!

I think they will smelt whatever was found not stored properly and cost of refurbing it for sale will be too great. There are still many countries with WW2 arms in storage and I'm sure some of it bad shape by now.

Yugoslavia had huge stockpile of arms like this but when they tried to use it in 1991 they found great most of MGs and SMGs unusable.

Yes and after Germany invaded Poland on September 1, 1939, Russia was there like a dirty shirt invading Poland too 16 days later, so Russia’s
friend Germany double crossed Russia and the Russian Front was eventually where the two friends met to slug it out!

It’s like Russia is trying to bury their history and finger pointing at Germany as the bad guys.
Scrap Soviet armour too!

The Nazi's did a number for terrible things to the Russian people during the war, I do not blame them for this, they probably have a ton of this stuff is storage all over the country. I commend Putin for not trying to turn a profit on the past misery of the nation. Do something good with it, instead of selling it to private collectors, I am sure the Russian military and war museum's are full of the best stuff, the rest can just go away.

1919 the German Navy scuttled their own ships at Scapa Flow
The British salvaged the steel hulks and sold steel back to the Germans
To build U Boats... Karma..

The Russians can't sell the rifles in the biggest milsurp market (the US) thanks to sanctions. It costs money to store them, so they might as well melt 'em down and use the recycled steel for something else.

It's all about the dollars (rubles?:d).

Mausers are pretty popular in ex USSR countries. Russia even makes commercial 7.92 ammo. Automatics and pistols converted to blank fire only are also popular among thousands of reenactors so there is no shortage of customers. Also, Im sure Russia exports things despite sanctions same way they import things they are not supposed. Maybe not as much as before sanctions but people from there laugh at sanctions, things that were supposed to disappear from stores are still coming in and things that are not supposed to be leaving are still being sold to countries that support sanctions, its just being sold and purchased through other countries in the region. Like they say back home - money doesnt smell.

I worked at steel mill pouring decks and furnaces for a few years before becoming a wpn tech. Scrap steel today is about $300 per ton. 98K Russian capture rifles today, minus wood, about $200,000 per ton.
