A friend has a Spanish Mauser made by Armas De Oviedo which has been sporterized and in need of replacing a firing pin. Rifle is dated 1920.

What firing pin does he need? Is it from a 1893 Mauser action? Is it unique to the Spanish rifle only?

Because I don't have a 93.
But, I do have a 96, and am under the impression, that they are the same. Different numbers are only there because they were adopted by different countiries at different times. Anyways, my comment was meant to be taken as a finger pointing to another direction of search, given that you have better luck finding what you need if you broaden your search.
Good luck.

Different numbers are different models, the years they were adopted mostly. Some parts carried over to the newer versions, but not all. I don't know if a 96 pin will fit, best to do some research.

Volhv is in the process of doing said research, we are all waiting for the outcome.

I had the same problem and used a Swedish 96 pin. The 96 pin is longer in the back (after the locking lugs) so it will stick out of the back of your bolt. On mine, the front was a tad longer too so I would advise caution and watch for pierced primer. Lastly, I had to do some filling on the lugs to make them fit in the grooves of the cocking piece.
