Canadian Armys "Interm Pistol Program"

Hahaha yep. We're getting Australian garbage as an interim solution starting this February for our pathetically overused jets.
Might as well keep it going right.
Or even better get Colt Canada to design some ungodly abortion of a handgun from scratch, have to tweak bugs out of it for 10 years to the tune of 300 million tax dollars before the machinery even gets set of for production.....
Or you know buy 50,000 sig 226 and half a mill in spare parts and good to go for 20 years....
We already have them in the system for SOF and MP's.
We just need to buy more. It's so ridiculous it's painful that they are going to try and reinvent the ####ing wheel on this.
FFS

All good points, unfortunately its seems like "CF procurement" is doomed, along with the men and women who would benefit by the new kit the CF needs.

The whole idea of a "10yr" plan is utterly ridiculous and anyone who dreamed that up or "signed" on, should be fired immediately.

If the magazines are ultimately the problem with the BHP, the obvious solution is a revolver ala the Ruger SP101 9mm.

yeah im building one to canadian standards... i think I'll go with a dark green instead of FDE :)

Very cool. I definitely prefer the feel of the X module.

Why are Glocks the defacto pistol of police all over the world. But the military stick their nose up at it? (Not even a Glock owner)

Silly cgners. Interim clearly means we are gonna scrounge up used hi powers from countries it used to serve in like the uk and australia and buy them for as new prices.

I know where we can get a bunch of Beretta M9s cheap.

Yet another example of government stupidity! The fact that the BHP's havent been replaced yet is embarrassing enough...now we have some dumb "interim" plan..can this process get any worse?

Not fair, or accurate.

The procurement system is beyond broken. More funding is needed for small arms replacement. CC has been designated as the small arms provider by the ###.

None of that is their fault.

Diemaco made significant improvements to the M16 thst were adopted by Colt. They make excellent, world class weapons. The folks there do great work churning out great product and should be commended for their efforts. The cussed up procurement process isn't their doing.

Edit - cussing amazing that G o C is censored here. What a brave new world we live in. Worse censorship than Facebook.

No, that would require more person - years than we have funding for.

226 is better than the BHP but still why go with a 226?

Simplicity. There are already some in service. Unless those have proved unsatisfactory they are a better option than making do with the Browning HiPower and

it is unlikely that trying to decide on how any other available pistol is better and then trying to decide whether the supposed advantages are worth having...

and at what cost differential (including the costs of complicating training, maintenance, and logistics for two different handguns) ...

and who should get the new type ...

and should the existing Sig 226s be replaced partly or entirely by the new pistol ...

and/or since there are going to be two different pistols in service should some more 226s be purchased because some users currently issued HiPowers would be better equipped with the Sig than with the new HiPower replacement

will take even longer and the delay will cost more.

The defense and security of this nation is not going to hang on which pistol is issued to the relatively small number of soldiers who need a side-arm. It is not a battle-winning, let alone a war-winning weapon. If having a handgun can save a soldier's life it won't matter whether it's a Sig 226, a Glock xteen or a HiPower, as long as it is in good working condition and the soldier is properly trained.

Just curious, was that a training exercise ? I didn't see any bad guys or return fire. That seems to be the norm in most encounters shown on You Tube.

Just curious, have you been there ?

There has never been "training ex" overthere and seeing that it is a 2006 video, I can garantee you that its a live fire 2 ways range.

Afghanistan was a big cat&mouse game. Sometimes we got to be the cat (offensive ops) and sometimes we got to be the mouse (day to day patrols)

We captured some footage of contacts filmed by them and compared it to ours from the same contact... The only difference was language and equipment. A lot of people only fired in general directions without ever seeing an actual target. The opponents had similar experience and only saw us enough to take a few shots to see us disapear to try to flank them.

Good times ! :p

The Liberals will screw around with this for 10 years to wax every Liberal palm they can find, then they will decide to give it to a Quebec based yet to be named importer who will end up buying either the 320 SIG M7 or some BS Camel design, from a "Canadian " manufacturer that as yet does not exist at 10 times the cost of Sig 320. Once let the contract will never get filled due to a Conservative interim Government and the process will start again.

In the mean time the Cdn Army will borrow equipment from anyone they can while successive Governments put our young men's lives at risk so Trudeau or his clone can take pictures with the troops at Christmas pretending they support the Armed Forces of this country. Why we put up with this nonsense is beyond me.

God Bless those who wear the Maple Leaf on their uniform.

Take Care

Bob
