I headed out this morning with a friend of mine for his very first official coyote hunt. We got to the farm and setup just before legal light. We got settled in and waited about 5 minutes or so before I let out that first set of screaming dying rabbit sounds from my mouth call…
It didn’t take long after that before my buddy spots the first one well over 600yds out coming our way, within a few seconds we both saw the second one. They both made a beeline to the decoy. They came in pretty quick (steady trot) to investigate the sound. As they dipped into a rut in the field, I let out a few more rabbit sounds (quieter this time) and that seemed to finish the deal (remove any doubt about committing)….
They both came within 10 yds of the caller/decoy before I yelled out wolf to get them to stop. I told my buddy to shoot (I wanted him to have his first kill) but he didn't… the coyotes at this point started moving off (realizing something is up) so I shot mine and it dropped a few yards away.
My buddy try as he might, he could not get his coyote centred in the crosshairs. I was to take the one on the left, he was to take the one on the right, so after he shot and missed we both started taking shots at this running away coyote which ended up leaving unscathed. :(
We talked about what happened, he was a little disappointed but really enjoyed the excitement....
It basically boils down to feeling/getting comfortable in a real life hunting shooting position and that can only happen with practice and experience..... because you can get really excited when a coyote or two come right into the call... :)

Saw this on Alberta Outdoors as well. What's with all the graphics ? We just shoot the buggers and leave it at that. :)

Well, your off to a better start than I am for 2019.

I slept in for my first scheduled day back to work, yup an hour late and a dollar short.

Keep the good work and thanks for keeping the Coyote population down in Canada.

Good fur Prices?

No I aint asking what your getting, just hope it keeps you in ammo and Gas money at least.
