Had a great year with family and friends this year. I started out by taking one of my largest bears with my middle son (7yrs old) and my 358STA on a 3 day hunt.

Summer was spent scouting looking for some jumbo big bush whitetails with my wife and three kids. Unfortunately we never did find anything over 160” on camera all summer.
Middle of August rolled around and I was fortunate it enough to hop on Angus Morrison’s float plane with a buddy and head into the coastal mountains of BC in search of mountain goats. We had an absolute blast but unfortunately the smoke from all the forest fires put a hold on 6 of our 10 day to hunt. We did see some monster goats but just ran out of time to make a play on them. Our guide was fantastic and we had many laughs while waiting out the smoke. Extremely rugged country but very rewarding views.

I spent much of September and October working but managed to get out with the kids and shoot some upland and waterfowl. My son turned 7 in October so we headed to saskatchewan and met up with my Dad and a good friend and hunted geese for a few days which was a ton of fun for him.

Most of the early part of November was a write off due to working and being in Colorado for some courses for work. When I got home I picked up my oldest daughter on the night before she turned 12years old and headed out to the cabin to see if we could find her a birthday buck the next day.
We didn’t have to wait long, after two hours of sitting in the blind on a hot cut line I could see a deer coming through the willows and let her know to get ready and I would stop him before he crossed. He crossed at 80 yards and I grunted him to a halt. And she was ready with her Remington 700 7mm rem mag that DoubleGun had put together for her this summer. One well placed shot and we had a birthday buck on the ground. Definitely the highlight of my season. Very proud dad that morning!

I stayed up for another week hoping to connect on a big buck and had my chance on my 5th day sitting on a cut line. Unfortunately I shot high and missed a beautiful 160 class 5x5 at 200 yards. That was a hard one to swallow. I had sat close to 20 days before getting a chance at big buck and I blew it.

One evening after work my youngest (2.5yrs old) was bugging me to go moose hunting( he’s obsessed with hunting already) so we just went for a drive to see what we could find. At our last stop to glass on a field where I’ve hunted a bit I spotted a nice buck chasing a doe. I left him in the truck and snuck to within 80 yards of the buck and let him have it with my 20guage savage 220. My youngest got to watch the whole thing unfold out his window which he thought was pretty good. Soon as we walked up to him I recognized the buck as one that I’ve had pictures of since 2010! He had gone down hill a bit but a cool way to end a chapter of trail camera pictures and sheds for years.

First week of December I had a draw tag for Elk but unfortunately my wife’s grandmother passed away and both my boys got sick so I had to stay home with them till they where better then it was off to BC for the funeral. When we got home I told my wife I was going to go for two days and see if I could find an elk. I wasn’t going to picky just needed a freezer filler. Well Lady Luck finally found me for once and tipped over a giant bull at 60 yards with my 270wsm and a 145gr Eldx. I had no idea how big he was when I shot as the bush was so thick I just knew it was a bull. When I pulled him out of the snow and brush I was a bit shocked to see a beautiful 6x7

All in all it was a good season lots of time spent with my kids. Each kid was on a successful hunt! Lots of great time with friends and made a few more along the way. Good luck to everyone in 2019
