Mmmm.... Walther Q5 Match steel Frame

I would buy that sight unseen just to shut the Shadow fan boys up. Might have to remove the Magwell or look at the other model mentioned. Not the Pro as shown in the video. No offence to the Shadow fanboys.

Ya looks good with and without the magwell. I have been humming and hawing between the P320X5, CZ Shadow 2 OR, or the Walther Q5 Match. Think i will wait for this one.

I've always thought that the Q5 Match looked like a good pistol but this is a very intriguing development. A nice low bore axis, combined with a longer all-steel frame should make for a very soft-shooting and low-recoiling pistol.

Shadow fanboy here! That is beautiful and could make me cheat on CZ.

She will get over it. I hope we don't have to go through all the pre order fiasco. I see that already happening with the Glock 48. Won't do it. Kinda like are booking a hooker for next years New Years celebrations.

Gun will run with the magwell in IDPA Optic Division. I took my optic off my PPQ Match and installed it on my SIG 320 XFive. I may have to think about getting the steel Match.

Given the Matches reputation for accuracy and great trigger this gun will challenge the Shadow2's in IPSC as well even without the magwell.

Here I thought I was going to get away with only one pistol purchase this year......the bucket list just went up by one.

Bob.
ps I only went to the SIG due to it being heavier and provided slightly faster recovery from recoil. The Wlather has a better trigger by far.

Was wondering where you might land on this one. Far be it for me to not follow that approach. Hope it won't be a long wait. Will be hard to be patient when i was so close to either the Q5 or X5.

A natural evolution of the Q5 concept. Good ergos, great trigger, no DA/SA complication and weight to speed up follow up shots.
I can see this gun dethroning the Shadow in a few years, especially for newer shooters just getting into the game.

If this concept takes off, I’ll bet you’ll see a lot of manufacturers going the way of the metal body competition striker guns soon.

Excellent point given the young guns are married to striker fired guns. Given how important recoil control is when shooting Optic sighted pistols the SIG X Five was, until now, the obvious choice among the striker fired pistols. The SIGS trigger is not quite as nice as the PPQ, nor do I think the gun is as accurate off a bench. For the accuracy requirements of both IPSC and IDPA both are more than up to the task. The added weight of the XFive gives it the nod over the PPQ. Now the choice may just come down to preference with the nod likely going to the PPQ.

IPSC's move to allow striker fired guns into Production with a less than 5# trigger pull really was a smart move and no doubt motivated by the changing marketplace. It will be interesting to see how it all shakes out. A $700 M2 5" or 320 that scores as well as a $1,400 Shadow 2 is going to attract a lot of shooters to the sport. We will see how long it takes for CZ to market the P10 in a full size dress. All three pistols will no doubt fight for supremacy in the striker fired market. Sorry but the Gen 5 Glock is a generation behind the current crop of competitors. Oh to be 20 years younger. We live in very heady times for the advancement of pistol designs.

I don't see the SF Walther doing too much out there wrt new shooters, because of the high price point. New shooters are often fairly budget conscious. I just don't see too many of them debating between a Shadow 2 and the SF Walther.

That said, I'm also curious about the future.

Aside from the very high price point, I'm curious if the Walther will actually have good parts support in this country. I love my Shadow, but a big part of why I like it is the relative ease to buy replacement parts. I can buy a variety of recoil springs to help tune the gun to different loads, main springs to reduce the trigger pull, etc. You can even buy factory extended firing pins, reduced strength firing pin springs, and a host of other factory parts, from a variety of sources. What does Walther have available?

As a competitor, I want support. If a trigger return spring breaks, I don't want to wait 6 month to get one. That's a huge reason why I'm not buying a Walther now. Maybe that will change?

It looks like Walther is serious about making an impression in the competition game. They will be offering 3.5 lb spring kits and magwells as separate parts to upgrade your pistol. You no longer have to get a box of springs from Home Depot to get that one spring. It already comes with a steel guide rod so they seem to be serious. I think they will have these items available pretty quick since they are already listed. Canadian availability is another question. IRG might be a faster option if they can get their hands on some. I'm getting one, no question. When is the question. And NO pre orders. Please.
