This has probably been answered before, but....

Have some 303 Brit ammo, marked: DA, 1942, C broad arrow, GI.
Also has a black stripe painted 1/8 inch above the rim, stripe is about 1/4 inch wide.

Curious as to what is it?
Possibly A/P?
TIA

Dominion Arsenal, 1942, Tracer.

'G' is the code for tracer and the 'I' indicates mark I. This had a white trace and should also have a red primer annulus.

303 Brit military ammo is very collectible. There is something like 1900 different rounds:

in my books and learnin Canadian ammo with black stripe is tracer

Ammo with multiple bands is ammo marked for a specific competition.

It was a way to ensure that everyone was using the same issue ammo.

BTW, the hollow point round in the first picture is an early version of British 303 ammo, made before the Hague convention.

Wow Ganderite! That looks to be a lifetime's worth of collecting. Man, that is just an incredible collection!

I count 530 cartridges in the picture of that one drawer, so only another 1370 variations to go?!!

There are multiple drawers. I think there is about 1800 different cases there.

Not my collection.

Just checked the book by Temple and sure enough there is a practice tracer, however for ID purposes the head stamp has PG I or PG I Z in it and the band around the case .250 inch above the rim is blue in colour.

The OP states that his head stamp reads: DA, 1942, C broad arrow, GI and that it also has a black stripe painted 1/8 inch above the rim, stripe is about 1/4 inch wide.
