A little info if you please.

I've shot my m1a for a while and I entered my first match last year. Did pretty well. I noticed that the ar-15's pretty well dominated (until it got windy). I've been reloading for a long while and enjoy my quality of rounds. I'm at the point now where I'm going to buy a new gun.

SO the question is.

XCR w/conversion to 6.8

-or-

Tavor

-or-

AR-10 (some nice buildup with lots of expensive parts.)

-or-

swiss arms black special

I've never shot a XCR but from all reports it's quite accurate and fun to shoot minus the shimming problem.

I've seen the vids on the Tavor and hear lots of people rave about it's accuracy.

AR-10 a few friends have built up AR-10's that absolutely rock. But whats the point of doing what others have done.

HAve seen a few (and fired a few) Black Specials carbine and they feel a bit awkward but I believe you can get them with a match barrel. I've often heard them described as the most accurate out of the box semi you can buy.

I'm in this for fun and accuracy. I'd like to do more competitive service rifle shooting and I can see the help a lower-recoil rifle will give me. My M1A is heavy and I'm a big guy so it isn't uncomfortable just every round does move the rifle around a bit, especially kneeling.

Let me know what you'd go for if you had a budget of less then 4K and already have optics. (I have an ACOG TA01-NSN and a LP MARK 4 8.5 - 25 that could go on these rifles).

XCR got my vote.

XCR looks pretty cool and it's Unrestricted

Tavor is a bullpup and I'm not a huge bullpup fan

AR-10 would be awesome but it's Restricted

and I think the SIG 556 is Kinda ugly.
 
as much as i like the tavor, the out of box m21 sight that comes with it has a low resale value, and it's crappy to be used in such a good gun, now, if the price of the MARS is lower or we can buy a tavor with - $700 dollars and just the gun and not the m21, then tavor all the way (granted, not sure how a 18.7 inch barrel will do in a bullpop, them being supposedly shorter weapons, the long, non-restricted barrel might be a little too long for it's design).

I say longer barrel actually fixes that inherent imbalance of all bullpups. Have a look at video I hijacked from another fella on these boards. I cropped that video just to show what I mean - you will notice short barreled tavor falling off shooter shoulder. Doesn't look like much but when you have that thing in your hands you will know what I am talking about. Some bullpups are horrible in that regard, but civvi Tavor doesn't have that problem. It balances perfectly on pistol grip, thanx to longer barrel. I agree that it spoils aestetics of original design though.

The Tavor balances very nicely for me ...
BUT
when I double tap as quick as I can pull the trigger,the Tavor spreads the second shot about three times as far as my AR 15 14.5" carbine.

So I either have to slow down a bit and take two aimed shots, which sort of defeats the whole concept of a DOUBLE tap, or else hang a compensator off the front of the Tavor .

tough choice ... considering what the Tavor costs, the comp should be of solid Gold

THis is purely a problem with the technique because the person raises the rifle completely before driving the butt to his body.

I voted for the XCR in 6.8, but I would have voted for the XCR-M (.308, non-restricted). If there were a non-restricted AR-10, I would probably buy that instead cause the price is better. But right now I'm saving for a XCR-M, sure hope it happens...
