My AR-15 build

Our story begins in January. I was at Calgary shooting center buying my revolver, when I happened to glance behind me at the small table by the till. on that table I saw an AR-15 stripped lower for maybe sixty or seventy bucks.

I thought "for that price, Why not?" so I bought it, just to have one. I wasn't intending to build it, as I'm not a fan of plastic.

But then I was just browsing the web and out of curiosity I googled "AR-15 wood furniture." I figured that something like this would not exist, but it was worth a try.

Turns out I wasn't the only one with this Idea. There were several more like this but this was the set that I went with.

The rifle isn't finished yet, but here it is so far

The parts are as follows

Norinco CQ-A1 receiver from Calgary shooting center
DPMS lower parts kit from SFRC
A2 buffer and buffer tube from True North Arms
Barrel is a colt m-16 pencil barrel, it is still in the grease paper and unfired.
The furniture is from Black Guns Wood

That is all that I have built so far. now I am saving up for the rest of the parts.

Where'd you get the barrel??

I'm looking for one to complete a (sort of :d) retro build (it's an A1 upper on an A2 lower).

The wood really looks good!!

I never really considered doing an AR like this, but you might have just changed the entire direction of my next AR build.
That rifle looks like a million bucks,man...Nice work!Very rich looking, but streamlined and understated at the same time.

The Search Continues

So I've been searching for the parts to complete this build, but I seem to have encountered a problem.
I am trying to find an A2 front sight gas block, but the only ones that I can find don't have the mounting holes drilled. I haven't seen one on the EE either.

Is it even possible to buy one with the holes pre-drilled or do I have to buy one and do it myself?

I would prefer a Colt one because the barrel is a Colt, but any brand will do [I can always change it later.]

EDIT; good things are happening

You found a drilled FSB that actually fit without modification? Don’t buy any Loto tickets for a while because you just used up all your luck. The reason you could only find undrilled is because the holes are drilled once the FSB is on the barrel. They’re essentially a matched set and not interchangeable.

I see your barrel is new. If it has grooves for the FSB than it was removed at some point.

So I've got my upper back from the gunsmith, now the sights are lined up. I need a few more parts to complete this build, I'm considering a leather sling as it goes with the style of the walnut stock.

it's almost done, the only parts that I need now are;

~Bolt carrier group
~Flash hider
~Leather sling

Soon I can take it to the range and shoot it.

Of course after i'm done I'll have to build a wooden case for it, lined with red velvet.
