It’s soon time for me to make my next “new production” pistol purchase, and I’ve been leaning towards a GI style (brown/wood grips, matte finish, and so on). Just wondering what everyone recommends for around or under $1000? Not interested in buying a Remington R1, I know that for sure. Thanks in advance everyone.

Why not buy the ORIGINAL, and get a Colt 1911A1?

You can pick one up for think 850 USD from Irunguns. I bought 2 firearms from them before, always A+ service.

The way I see it, everyone else just copies the Colt 1911. Colt actually makes them.

Get an old Norinco stock 1911a1. They are built the old fashion way .Then
move up if it doesn't fill the bill.

I'm waiting to pick up one of the new US made Seraphim Armoury GIs but they haven't brought them into the country yet.

You mean made in the Philippines but assembled in the USA?

They say “US made” on their website so who knows. Doesn’t look like they’re getting very far with the project though based on when I last commented on this thread and they still haven’t released them yet.

I looked at one in person yesterday... an Archangel model in 9mm. Frame was clearly marked S.A. Phillipines. [Which I took to mean "Shooters Arms" mfg frame].

Most new "GI" style 1911 buyers soon get tired of the less niceties of the standard auto. Seeking improvements, they upgrade the original fixed sights, perhaps the grips, maybe a better trigger, etc. Now they own a "dressed up" basic 1911 that might be worth what they paid for it including the new improvements and are still not satisfied......

In many cases it seems better to upscale & up money your new purchase to something like the Ruger Target 1911, the Kimber Target2, the Springfield Range Officer, etc.

Personally for the money, the box stock CZ SP01 9mm outclasses most 1911's in the C$1000.00 price range, with the 1911 killer, the CZ Shadow2.

I picked up a Colt 1911 (series 80) Government when eagle went under for like $700 bucks. Not only does it scratch my Saving Private Ryan itch but the fit and finish (and trigger) was waaay better than I was expecting. She's a real sweet shooter too. Highly recommend.

My opinion is that if you want the retro cool and plan to keep the GI look, go colt or Springfield. If you want to build a race gun, buy a quality frame (SAM or Norc) and go from there.

That's what I did ... and just added some nice authentic Herrret grips. Not a matte finish though, and the big Made in China on the side is ummm ... discordant. But both can be corrected ...

Seraphim is over priced. I asked for the price list and they are 2000$avg. With the top model being 2800$, i asked what so special and can i expect Wilson combat /Sig sauer quality in respect to their prices. All he said was, tou wont be disappointed, and i asked are they truly made in US or assembled in US to get around 922 law. No response. Anyhow, its one heck of an expensive Flip gun.

If i was in a market for a seraphim, dont waste your money on it, spend that same amount of money on a Wilson/Sig/Sti.
