Rangefinders

My wife bought me a vortex 1000 for my birthday a few years ago, I’m pretty happy with it so far. My buddies Leica ranges further, but costs a whole lot more. I used Leica survey equipment for years, Leica glass is awesome

Don't worry about the odd sarcastic comment! you've done nothing wrong and hi tech stuff changes so fast a week ago is ancient history! If they don't like what you post they can always just move along. Im a firm believer in ur saying and think someone just removed some doubt!!! Haha Burn some powder and have some fun. I have a Bushnell Elite 1500 with ARC and it does what I need it to do. At extreme ranges you need a tripod or other device to hold perfectly steady or you will have difficulties. If you can afford it the previous mention of the European range finders would definitely be money well spent! As the saying goes, you get what you pay for. Check the optics section cuz they are on there once in a while. Cheers

The new Nikon Black RangeX 4K looks very promising. I recommended this one to a couple buddies recently based off some reviews. My experience is with a Leica 1600 and a Terrapin X. The 1600 lets me down too often.

I'm going to have a look at the 4K at SHOT very soon.

I just picked up a Leica 2400R. I have only ranged out to 350 through my front picture window, farthest I can see here in the city from my house. It seems to be really nice, much faster than my old Nikon 800. Planning on testing it out tomorrow if it's not snowing heavy. My friend has a Leica 1000, it works flawlessly, hope mine does too.

I picked up a Simmons on sale at Sail a couple years back for $89. I usually just range a bunch of things from the stand to get a general distance, but used it on a couple does this year at 180yards down to 100yards until i took the shot. I've been able to range windmills at 300 yards with it.

I don’t range much past 500 yards and I’m not a long range shooter. I use my Bushnell Truth for bow hunting as it has a 4x magnification which I like for close range and I also have a Leupold Full Draw which is great for the ranges I use it at, it’s small, compact, waterproof and quite fast.

Any thoughts on how the Vortex 1800 compares? I tested one out in the shop a couple days ago and it seemed pretty slick , But nice to get some reviews from people who have actually use them outdoors.

Only had time for a quick test today of the Leica 2400r. Ranged a hillside and trees up to 1500, and an old barn at 1790 today from inside the truck leaning on the window, while it was running. 1300-1500 freehand is easy. I need to build a tripod mount for it now, to stretch it out further. Happy so far.
