Odd experience on EE

The trader ratings were designed to deal with these sorts of issues, that said most of the members of CGN are afraid to give someone a bad trader rating (for a variety of reasons).

I personally know and I am sure most of you know folks on here with 100-300 positive ratings who are the biggest crooks in the world.

Buyer beware is my motto!

Calling yourself a crook? You got over 100 feedback. When I switched over from RobertMcC in total over 400. Never screwed one person over.

I could be, what I am saying is trader ratings carry very little weight for me. I buy old collector guns which are high risk as opposed to newer guns.. I see the best and the worst in people. The excuse is "I did not know", you can't prove it but the odds are a big collector ought to have known that a pistol was re-blued, a grip is cracked or parts don't match. I simply don't deal with them again. Again "buyer beware"!

I guess we had better not deal with you than as we are all crooks I guess, BTW I have been dealing OLD guns for 40+ years and one was returned, about 25 yrs ago , because the wife #####ed, I took it back. shipping was over 50.oo, one way.

If no deal was made, then no harm done.

Sometimes people under value their item, and they are informed of such. it's not like the seller made a deal then raised the price.

I've told people they are under valuing an item. Sometimes they are appreciative, sometimes they don't care. I bought a gun last year from a guy and I told him that his price was very low, and I would pay more if he wanted. He told me he knew it but just wanted a quick sale, but he appreciated the gesture.

I do my due diligence now, I usually cut it off at the gate now and save the postage and time changing the registration back ... I am partially to blame as I chose the name "newby", made me a bit of a mark. I help out a few younger collectors now, get them to send me the photos first, they are are ones at the most risk.

No, this is NOT what the Trader Ratings were designed for. Read the rules. Negative feedback can only be left if their is a deal made, and there is an issue for some reason.

OP, I had the same thing happen a couple months ago with a Mauser. No answer to PM, then add edited with higher price. I started a thread about it, but I also let the mods know what was happening. They dealt with it. Removed add, and peepee slap for seller

I guess that's an option, but I didn't make a deal and it is his first add, not making excuses for him as it was a bit sketchy, I have bought probably 4-5 times what my rating shows, didn't know till a couple years ago that sponsors can get/give ratings and some private ones I just forgot! The only time I felt screwed over was from two sponsors and a few other members here also felt the same, there was a thread about it and I have bought from one of the two after the fact, but, am aware of descriptions etc. Over all experience is good on CGN and members and sponsors are very honest.

The EE is not an auction site. When a seller posts something for sale, and then ignores PM’s and raises the price - that is an auction. I’ve seen it happening more often on here lately. And the mods need to know about this. Especially if he sent you a PM response that said he raised the price - that’s the proof, and mods need to be informed. Otherwise he will do it again.

The Trader Rating system is not for dealing with issues like this - that is what we have moderators for. I’d at least let them know what was going on so that they can check up on the seller. What he did was greasy, and if somebody doesn’t correct the behaviour, it will continue. Whether he’s new or not doesn’t matter - he needs to read the rules and follow them like the rest of us. We don’t need sellers like that on here, as it gives a bad rep to all the great sellers/ buyers on the site.

If there were no offers i would say its acceptable to modify the price

However if there were offers at the listed price, intentions with clarifications (like op), or an "I'll take it"....then the etiquette is to sell it as listed. To change during those circumstances is bad etiquette. The seller should be outted in my opinion or bad behaviour will repeat.

As per the title of this thread, there was nothing odd about this EE transaction. This unfortunately is the result of a douche bag jacking his price because he came to realize he posted it low and he has no ethics. This happens to often for it to be considered odd.

Add him to your ignore list and carry on.

I had an experience recently that left a bad taste in my mouth. I messaged a seller that I would take a pistol he was selling but I'd like to see some photos first. He says sure and not long after messages saying sorry but someone else offered to buy sight unseen. That's douchey in my opinion. I won't deal with him again if he puts anything up for sale.

So if someone sets a price lower than market value, and then realizes he can get more, you really expect them to screw themselves over out of some misguided sense of principle? My Lord, some of you guys are so detached from reality...

Buddy set a price of his one choosing, in other words an asking price he was happy to receive.
Turns out his happy price was $50 lower then what someone was willing to pay..... he got a flood of requests at his original happy price, then thinks hey it looks like my happy price was a little on the low side........ I can get more money and be more happy!

Makes perfect sense circa 2019 in a faceless internet transaction reality.

Supply and Command baby...... suck it you misguided, ol school, stand by your word, live and learn types!

I guess the price was low enough a bunch of other people were sending PM's...... and someone offered him more money.
It sounds like if you'd given him an "I'll take it" initially he might have honored that....... hard to say for sure.
That's what I was thinking as well..

Ben, anyone that's been here for a while has missed out on some guns by asking for pictures first..... it happens.
First one to commit with no caveats is typically what is meant by "first I will take it wins"

Even the OP might have gotten his parts gun for $100 if he didn't ask for more info. It's usually good to ask for more info and pictures etc but I have taken a chance on EE guns that I knew were not going to last at the asking price. One in particular is a very rare rifle that turned out to be a real gem and If I had asked for pictures I would not have been the first to say "I will take it"

..is True ^ if someone else PM's - I'll take it' & all you do is ask for pictures, how many times have people asked" for "picz"to just have them never bother message again, asking for pictures doesn't mean anything, unless more is clarified along with that. Why should that automatically HOLD it for you? An I'll take it, is firm. I will sometimes inform the 'send more picture' person others are firmly interested, if it's a quick thing, if I send pics & a day goes by, dont expect me to chase you around!.. but i have done it at times, & lost out b4.

Yes it happened pretty quick, no problem with others just saying, "I will take it," I said if bore is good I will take it, the beef if any, is the raising of the price by 50%,, although someone did take it quickly at the higher price, as I said, it seemed odd. For me, I will not do business with him as this seemed off, ymmv I won't lose sleep over it, if it was something worth $1000.'s of dollars then maybe get a bit perturbed. For another $100 I can get a beauty M57 unfired so I would not have taken it at $150.! Thanks for all the comments, helps me understand and guidance for the future.

You were asking for pics when you should have been sending an EMT. :)
