Odd experience on EE

EE is indeed an odd place...I’ve made 5 inquiries over the past 6 months.

Two posters did not respond and the items still appeared to be for sale afterwards.

One was excellent, answered my questions and I purchased the item.

One sent me pics but failed to answer a simple question (what is the condition of the bore?) asked twice. After the 3rd time, he quit answering.

The last one answered my inquiry, but went away when I asked for specific pics.

Weird. I’ve has much better success on TownPost

I had an experience recently that left a bad taste in my mouth. I messaged a seller that I would take a pistol he was selling but I'd like to see some photos first. He says sure and not long after messages saying sorry but someone else offered to buy sight unseen. That's douchey in my opinion. I won't deal with him again if he puts anything up for sale.

So you wanted the right to a conditional purchase and found it "douchey" when they sold it to someone without conditions? What if he said no to the other person only to have you change your mind after seeing the pictures? Next time ask for pictures first, then commit to the purchase, or roll the dice and buy it immediately. Some items are worth the gamble, which ones are up to you.

Want to trade:

"This isn't for me, make offers"
How about this?
"That's exactly what I was looking for!"
So we doing this trade?
"Wellllllll,I've got some other trades I'm also looking at. I'll let you know tomorrow"

3 weeks later it's still up for trade, lol.

I should have said I told him I'd take it but I wanted to see photos first. He says ok and literally ten minutes later he messages and says it sold. You don't find that a bit off? It's not like I kept him waiting for days.

Very true, I guess like many things you have to weigh the risk and the reward. Actually things have worked out as I found the same pistol in two tone that I wanted for a great price. It's on it's way now so I'm happy. Thank you for the advice.

I don't see anything off there, some one paid him.
many times I have had guys ask me to put a gun under the table at gun shows, Yes I will, but I need a down payment or it stays on the table.
I learned that many years ago.

Buddy set a price of his one choosing, in other words an asking price he was happy to receive.
Turns out his happy price was $50 lower then what someone was willing to pay..... he got a flood of requests at his original happy price, then thinks hey it looks like my happy price was a little on the low side........ I can get more money and be more happy!

Makes perfect sense circa 2019 in a faceless internet transaction reality.

Supply and Command baby...... suck it you misguided, ol school, stand by your word, live and learn types!

Makes sense in any reality to get the most bang for your buck, so to speak. Anyhow, sounds like the misguised, old school, stand by your word, live and learn types are upset because they not able to take advantage of another's ignorance.

"Back in my day, we tried to screw folk over without a care in the world!"

Careful, your entitlement is showing.

I had a guy with 2 feedback, lecture me on how to do business.. Because first he low balled me by 50%. Told him no deal. Then he offered something to trade. That I was interested in. Then he backed out on offering that. And then said he might buy it. So I told him there won't be a 3rd time. He got upset and he lectured me on how that just business man.

I'm not so sure about that, Sounds like he went with the first unqualified "I'll take it". Your "I'll take it" was conditional.

Well, I guess I need new deodorant or something, last week I also asked info on a longbranch Mark 4,,, no answer,, yesterday I asked about a pistol that had just came on EE, then about ten minutes later I just said I will take it, no answer to either although I figured it would be gone fast, at least they could pm saying so, and yes I know it is only 24 hours, and last but not least, yesterday morning someone contacted me, who must have read this thread and said if I was interested in a tt33 parts gun he may have just what I want,, so I pm back asking what he had and price,, still no answer. I am starting to wonder if there is something wrong with my pm, but they all show in the sent list!

Some should also take into consideration that you will not get a reply if you are on their "ignore" list... after years of trading, I have several dozen on my ignore list... people I would prefer not to do business with again or for the first time, based on their posts and comments... might add a couple from this thread.

Its refreshing to have someone speak the truth. The reality is the seller does not have to sell to anyone, at any price, that's how the real world works. I personally am a rule guy but I also recognize most are unenforceable. As I have stated before (gets some folks riled up), "Buyer Beware". I work in real estate where we have a TON of rules, I warn my clients not to rely on these, very hard to enforce or get justice after the fact. Spend the extra time and do your due diligence up front, if it don't look right walk away. Don't let a good deal cloud your judgement. If a bad seller walks away consider it a gift... the op should be happy.

Some people don't check CGN hourly or daily

So if someone sets a price lower than market value, and then realizes he can get more, you really expect them to screw themselves over out of some misguided sense of principle? My Lord, some of you guys are so detached from reality...

Sellers choose the price. If they're not willing to do their due diligence and figure out what something is worth, that's their problem. Changing a price after the ad is posted is sleazy at best...

No, changing the price after you have an offer is sleazy. Changing it before any offers come in is the sellers prerogative.

Well, it's everyone's right to their perspective, I think if you are asking questions about an item that is posted at a specific price and in the middle of the communications which included the comment" I will take it if the bore is ok" they raise the price by 50%, seems a bit sleezy, but to each his own. As was said, buyer beware and more and more I don't trust the EE here, and things like this are the reason why! Rather spend a bit more and buy from a sponsor or LGS, if the item can be found there!

Sounds like a deal was yet to be reached, so what does it matter what someone else chooses to do with their property? What I find odd is all the people complaining that they haven't received an immediate reply (or got ignored) like they're a bunch of crazy ex-girlfriends.

I hear that !

That is the conclusion you have come to in your vast experience of 13 trades?

With hundreds of trades, I have found that the overwhelming majority of traders are upstanding gun enthusiasts who do their honourable best to describe items and/or pay promptly... people of character and integrity... you occasionally run into a bad egg, but that is what the "ignore" list is for.

I called my stock broker concerning a stock that was at $30 a share and instructed him to purchase 1000 shares. He called me back and told me that before he could buy a single share, the price had jumped up to $42 a share. Do these people not know who I am! I told my broker I was going to buy and he entered into it into his computer and even though the purchase did not go through, it is still good enough for me. I feel that I am entitled to $12,000 even though none of my money left my account.

I feel what the OP is putting down and I think he should sue for false advertisement despite the fact that the seller is not a business but who cares! Only purchasers can change their minds and not sellers. I think the seller should give the buyer the $100 TT clone and if it had been sold to someone else for $50 more than not only should the OP get the $50 difference but also a public apology and an above the pants antler rub.
