I would like to put a Red Dot (or whatever colour dot) sight on my SKS. I have a Picatinny rail to attach it to.

I wish to know if anyone has a suggestion for a decent one for around $300.00 -$400.00 obviously is there is a cheaper I will happily take that suggestion too.

I never thought much about them -I generally disliked them in video games- but a guy at the range let me fire his AR with one and I was amazed at the effectiveness. And like everything else firearm, now I want it.

Thanks.

Where is the picitinnay?
Is it a TAPCO stock with it up front or is mounted back further

I ask because one of my sks is tapco and that front rail is loose and wont hold 0

Whichever sight you do decide to go with I would suggest one with a lower profile, had a cheap knockoff one that sat too high and required me to always have my neck stretched out uncomfortably in order to get a proper view through the sight.

Reflex sights red dot is the way to go. 1-2oz and sight low pro which suits the SKS. Just my 2 cents but the good ones start at $300 but will take a beating. TRS-25 seems to be the standard tho $$.

Ok, I looked up the Bushnell TRS-25 and it seems good. The other suggested sight, the Bushnell 75 (the one for around $300 that 300spartins suggested )is the one the store tried to sell me and it looked good too. Can someone tell me what the major advantage of Bushnell 750006 compared to the Bushnell 25 is?

CSC sells the Vortex Venom 3moa for 289.00$ on sale and won't break. The bushnell 5MOA reflex I am not sure for about $250.00. I'd check on YouTube vids of it won't break. For about 40$ more etc.. at least you'd get a decent Dot and can take a beating.

If you do decide on the TRS25 be aware that their are knock offs out there that amazon and others are selling I hear. I have 4 TRS25's that I bought years ago and all of them are still working great. One of them is on an SKS and has had thousands of rounds fired with no issues.

If it is on the gas cover, make sure it is as tight as possible, maybe some epoxy bedding.

I’ve tried a few of those metal and plastics and they don’t seem to hold zero or potiental to eventually move in the future. Best scout mount by far is on the SKS rear sight area.

Magwedge anchors to the rear sight hole and the dust cover hole. Pull the back pin and rotate up to clean, solid ,no epoxy,no mounting to dust cover. It’s metal

But you can’t use stripper clips with that set up. Tapco mags it is! I love the stripper clips.

Wow, thanks everyone! This was exactly what I was looking for. Great advice. And now I can go in to the store a bit more informed. Everyone gave great answers. Thanks again!
