Someone call 1984 and the A-Team!

I’ve heard the new mini 14’s with the thicker barrels can get 2-3 moa now, but I never hear what the newer mini 30’s are capable of ..... hope you let us know.

Is the ATI stock heavy and bulky?

its light and bulky.
i took it off last night and put the original stock back on.
the ATI stock has the hinge on the left side that gets in the way for left handed shooters (like me)

Thanks .... I like the idea of a folding stock, but the ATI ones look pretty bulky. Hope to hear how this one shoots.

The Butler Creek folders are nice. Lightweight and solid. If you can find one!

The only thing I don't really like about them are the finger grooves on the pistol grip. But I can live with it.

ive got one of those on my stainless 10/22 from the early 90's

i really hope that i can either find a full wood stock for my mini30 or preferably a clone of the original ruger folding stock, or one of those under folders that where around, kinda like the AK under folders.

ill have to start beating the bush and looking for one.

pulled off the ATI stock and put it on a mini14 stock i had laying around, really like the look of it!
had to pull out the stock reinforcement block before it would fit.
didnt like the look of the holes in the side from the screw that hold that block in there.

so put it back in its factory synthetic stock for now.

Had a Stainless synthetic Mini-30, but my Russian SKSs could easily get better groups at 100 meters, and my SKS’s never failed to feed or extract, unlike the Mini-30 did fairly often, like once every other mag. This is with Norinco non-corrosive ammo.

Too bad the 30 did not live to expectations, unlike my Mini-14 which was functionally flawless.

Never had any feeding problems with my 30 or 14 .
The stock reinforcement piece on the 30 is different than the 14 .
You can modify a 14 wood stock to accept the 30 reinforcement bracket & still switch back to the 14 bracket if you want to put a 14 back in it .
You also need the stock liner in a wood stock
IRG has factory Ruger 20/5 mags for the 30 in stock in Canada .

i was able to sneak out to the old sandpit today and rattle off 100 rounds.
im not going to lie, i was humming the A-Team theme song the entire time!

so it was a crisp -24 here today not counting wind chill but i dont think there was much of that, not much wind.
gun ran super good, i noticed the KCI mags dont like the Norinco ammo much.
it seems to have a hard time grabbing the rim of the next round.
even with me sitting there looking at it and cycling it 10 times it wasn't picking up the next round.
definitely the magazine issue there, not sure if i need to cut down the back of the magazine a bit or get the follower to up a little higher, ill have to look at it now that im home.
but the Ruger magazines ran flawless!
i blazed away with 100 rounds before my fingers got too cold to load the mag's.

gun is a bit snappier than the mini14 thats for sure!
i guess since they are exactly the same i was expecting the same impulse from the gun and was surprised by the thump the gun made.
i was only shooting free hand at like 30m and i nibbled out the center of the target no problem.
was too deep of snow to try to set up the shooting table and do a prolonged shoot, just function test with 100 rounds and back into the truck and the warmth!

when we get some more stable weather ill put some glass on the mini30 and see what it does for accuracy just plain jane like it is.
maybe ill bring out the mini14 as well and see how they do side by side!

That's a great story all-around, you getting the rifle for great deal, BA using the mini 14 instead, love it, even if the plan didn't totally come together!
