760 Remington feeding issues

Got a 760 that will feed Ballistic tips like no problem but round nose bullets will not feed from the mag worth poop ,, Tried two different magazines and all three worked the same .. Seems the ramp or what ever the bullet rides on is causing the lead too catch on it .. where the ballistic tip is pointed more and goes right into the chamber no problem ,, Am going too take it too a gum smith if I can not find out what the problem might be
 
The lips on the top of the clip are critical on 760s, By trial & error with SMALL adjustments you should be able to make it work
 
The round nose bullets are factory .. As for making sure the magazine is in far enough I have tried the original and two other ones ,, another used and one that was brand new a week before and buddy told me too try it .... And made sure each one was seated as far in as possible... Maybe it will be a pointy bullet kind of gun LOL
 
Are the rounds catching on the magazine or the feed rail? If on the magazine, a little fine work with a file will solve your problem. If it's the feed rails, you may need to visit a good smith.
 
It is not catching on the magazine .. It SEEMS the bullet when pushed from the mag gets caught on the slope going into the barrel .. the pointed bullets; maybe because they are plastic tips and either harder or just because they are pointed will just slide right in
 
Your round nose bullets are hitting the feed ramp. Opening up the front lips on the mag will release the brass earlier and allow the cartridge to pop up a bit more and hit the ramp higher. As stated earlier by rem31, do it gradually with small tweaks and test it after every adjustment.

I had to tune a few for an old neighbor and that was the fix.
 
Thank yuo ... I will try this for sure ... Cheaper than a trip too the smith and then another trip back too get it .. The bullets do sit in the mag almost level // But I thought that was how it was suppose too be .. Never had a Remington pump before but Have been around a few guys with semi's .. But never seen this before

If you know what one is the original to the gun start there. I have always found the original will require the least amount of tweaking

Finally took the gun too a gun smith // The 6.5x55 bullet OAL is just a bit shorter than the original length of the 30-06-270 by about 5 mm .. The loading gate is almost gone because of the way it was machined .or what ever term when they installed the barrel ; so the bullet just pushes straight into the bottom of the chamber .. There is not much loading gate left ... He is going too try and fix it .. If not at least I know it is a pointy bullet kind of gun or I will need too use it as a single shot .. Hopefully he can fix it
 
YES .. When they machined the gun they removed the ramp so it is just by luck that the pointed bullet enters the chamber and the shape of the bullet is what is feeding it into the chamber; if that makes sense .. Once the point is in the chamber the bullet will feed
 
The 760 was never built in 6.5 x 55, so the gun has been "customized" already. Trying to use those 160 gr round nose bullets likely compounds the issue, given their long tubular shape.

I knew what you were saying, just trying to put the right words in yer mouth. Should work out fine.
 
If you take a light you can see where the round nose bullet hits right at the bottom of the chamber .. There is a mark where they are hitting .. All the bullets I am useing is 140 grain be it pointed and round .. so whoever did the custom job did not allow for the shorter bullet of the 6.5x55 ... when they swapped barrels ... I would not even bother with it but it shoots real good
