Is there such thing as a tall M-lok rail?

Hi everyone,

I want to mount a picatinny rail-style fore grip on a free floating M-lok forend and the mounting bolts stick out just a little too far so it got me thinking. (And no, a straight M-lok fore grip isnt going to work.)

I have owned many different rifles that had proprietary rails, some of which were taller/thicker than others. There are plenty of companies that make M-lok rails, does anybody know of one that makes them a different height/thickness?

I only need less than a quarter inch more clearance, and putting a riser on with QD levers and everything just seems silly and cluttered.

Any ideas would be appreciated.

Thanks for looking!

If you need less of the machine screw protruding Magpul just uses 10-24 (not 10-32) screws with their hardware so you just need to find a panhead screw that is shorter. You can even find them at Home Depot or canadian tire.

You'll likely find, that the above rail isn't going to have less screw sticking through, they just machine the screw holes deeper.

Mlok stuff is designed to lock onto plastic or metal Mlok slots, so there is a manufacturer designed "tolerance" for thickness, which is why on metal handguards there is more screw sticking out.

You can grind/file the existing screw down, or just buy some shorter screws and that will fix that problem for ya. (you can even then go with a direct mount grip if you so choose)

Thanks for the tip but that's not the problem I'm experiencing. my fore end has a bracket with 2 hex bolts on the underside where it meets the upper receiver. I'm sure there's a fancy name for it. Anyway, the tall rail like in that link would get me where I need to go.

Ohh I think I see what you're talking about ;)

Carry on then :D
