I'm looking to get a mount to put on a .223 rifle. Took a look at the Vortex scope mounts and found that they have 2 lines. One of them is the Cantilever Rifle Scope Ring Mount for AR-15 CM-202. The other one is called Precision Extended Cantilever Mount CM-530. Quite a price difference between these 2 lines, but whats the difference?

Is the CM530 built for bigger calibres and the CM202 will suffice for a 223?

Are the more expensive vortex mounts just rebranded American defense mounts while the cheaper ones are just random chinese made mounts?

I don't understand why all the fuss for this massive oversized mounts. The majority of people I see with them have their scopes way too high and have incorrect cheek welds as a result.

I was trying to configure an AR with one of these mounts and realized I'd need to add 3/4" to my butt stock in order to get correct eye alignment with the scope and a proper cheek weld. I'm paying more for the mount and the rise when the solution is a standard stock and standard height rings.

Yes I had to mount my scope all the way forward on the receiver to get the correct eye relief, but it fit without issue.

Can someone fill me in on why these cantilever mounts are necessary? Is it just look cool factor?

its designed so you can put bigger scopes or other stuff in front of your scope.
If you have PEQ15 sitting at 12 o clock and a low mount, then most of your field of view is just the back end of your PEQ15.

I wish the bobro one was still available. The offerings doesnt really appeal to me. Neither does ADM nor Spuhr. Only Geissele left?
