Shipping a pistol to a gunsmith to get work done

I know I'm not required to call in to get an ATT to take a pistol to a gunsmith but what about if I'm going to ship a pistol to a gunsmith to get some work done? Do I need to call to get an ATT for this? I couldn't find anything on their website answering this, if I'm not 100% sure of the answer I will call in to ask them anyways.
 
If your going to the post office to send it yes you need a ATT if it's being picked up at your location no you don't. This is my understanding of the rules but to be 100% sure Call your CFO.

Yes, you need a STATT to take it to the Post office.

If this is correct it's ridiculous that the licensed and vetted person can't take it to the post office yet the post person can. Also if you drive it to the gunsmith you don't but to the post office you do. What f'd up laws.

Its called chain of custody. If you personally delivery to a licensed gunsmith, the gunsmith should photocopy your certificate and log the entry in his book. That way everyone's covered. If you mail the item with no STATT and something happens, lost etc how do you prove to the CFO you mailed it. Well that's the explanation I got from them a couple of years ago.
 
I inquired with the CFO regarding this same situation last year. I was told that I did not need a short term ATT to take my handgun to post office if shipping to a gunsmith. The operator said the long term ATT conditions include transport to post office for shipping to a gunsmith as long as the firearm was still registered to me. They would not issue a short term ATT for this purpose. But since others have had different experiences may be best to call CFO and hear it directly.

It definitely sounds like I will be calling the CFO to make sure I am following the rules exactly just so nothing can come back on me.
 
In a conservation with one of the Horse people, she said you can take it to a gunsmith but if you have to leave it for repairs you need paper work.
 
Every CFO and P Officer seems to have different ideas on this, A customer Phoned me couple days ago about this same thing.
The CFO's answer to him was different than the answer he got last year from same office, different officer.
I think some paper work would be a good idea.
If it is going out of province, than for sure you want a paper trail to cover your butt if something happens to the gun, plus the gunsmith it is going to.
