Remington 700 or 783 worth the extra cost?

Likewise fer me as well. The 783's be solid performers with minor tweeking, starting with bedding the recoil lug proper. More stock, trigger & barrel optionscoming out for these as well they should. Great platform to work with for value & performance.

Got a 783 compact in .243 for my daughter to shoot. I have been very impressed with it. Sighted it in with only a few shots. Been printing sub MOA groups since day 1. My daughter killed her deer with 1 shot at a lasered 290 yards. And all that with the factory no name scope. I’ve since upgraded the scope to a Redfield Revolution. It’s a solid performer. Very pleased with it so far.
If buying brand new id grab a 783 when they go on sale for sub $400. Then invest in a great scope. But and theres always a but. Id pick up a used 700BDL that looks in great shape for between 6-700 before a new 783.

My hb 16.5" barreled 783 is shooting at worst .8" groups during my limited work ups. Only tried the 53gr vmax so far. Most groups are .5" or less. It is in a mdt chassis though. I really like the rem 783 except the hideous flat bolt knob. If they sold the bolt handle and knob from the short barreled version id likely but a couple more. I find the 783 to be an improvement over the savage 10/110 design which im heavily invested in for hunting rifles

The Model 700 is their top of the line action, which has been around for over 65 years. The one most copied and most used for custom rifle builds.(45ACPKING; nice build! The 338 Federal is a great cartridge!) As previously mentioned, do not let bad press initiated by those against riflesin general be a deterrent.
The Model 783 is their budget priced entry level rifle made to meet the demand to be sold in box stores. Apparently has been getting good reviews here.
While I do not have a deep wallet, I am a lefty, with a propensity for cartridges that are not run-of-the-mill. This means that I usually have to have a custom rifle built toget what I am looking for. The Remington 700 has been the go to platform for most of my builds. Yes, I have used other manufacturers as well (Sako and Ruger), but the Remington is usually easier to acquire left handed, and has the most options available for extra goodies (as previously mentioned). No, I do not own a 783, nor am I about to...but that is just me.
To the poster looking for a budget left handed rifle; The Ruger American is available for those of us in our "right minds". My uncle's rifle, which I set up a scope on for him, and broke it in, will print sub-MOA groups with Federal blue box ammo consistently.
