As far as features am looking for constant vibrate mode, locate tone, beeper when pointing. 3/4 mile range would be fine.
Anyone have strong preference between the manufacturers - I guess things like durability, reliability, lifespan of batteries, how long charge lasts? Any experience with the DT 1450 upland?
Would appreciate any recommendations you might offer.

Not my area of expertise but there is a lot of info on them here: with a manual that can be downloaded'

I have had good luck with the Sportdog 1825 series, it has good range , long battery life and a decent warranty. I use a separate beeper locator collar attached to the dogs' vests to keep the sound further away from their ears even though it seems fairly well accepted that the beepers don't damage their hearing ,but I'd rather be safe than sorry. The 1875 series includes the beeper locator with the e-collar.

I currently run a DTS system 1850 . It's the best system I have ever had. ( had tritronics and sportdog in the past) the DTS system has been bomb proof and has excellent battery life. I have the model that's good for 1-1/2 mile. Which was important while training my new Plott hound....she is a runner. I would get another one when this set gets run down.I highly recommend it. I use mine twice a day every day.

I have an older Dogtra T&B & there is a newer version... No issues with battery life, waterproof etc. I'd buy it again.

Oh ya, bought it after my current dog Nos killed a porcupine... Stopped him a bunch of times from killing others afterwards, WORTH EVERY PENNY!

Cheers
Jay

That’s a DD owners reality right there!

I use a Garmin pro 550 with accessory beeper. Have a two dog set. It has never let me down. FWIW, we use them on our work dogs too...

Yup, when the Germans say 'predator hardness', they sure mean it!

Thanks everyone for your replies. Interesting 4 manufacturers in this thread (DTS, SportDog, Dogtra, Garmin/Tritronic) and all are recommended. Looks like I can't go too far wrong with any of them. Will do some more research with the link from Silverfox DJ.
Jay, that is a compelling reason right there! I always have porcs on my land. Been in that veterinary urgent care situation with a lab in the past. In the same encounter my GSP came away with only a couple quills and was able to whoa him verbally from running in on porcupines following that.

Well before the Dogtra love started to come out I had ordered a DT systems 1850. Have read that customer support for DTS is excellent. The "revolutionary" controller on the 1450 upland uses a 9 volt that requires you to carry a spare and a Phillips screwdriver. The 1850 has more range, conventional-type controller, and both can be charged at same time with 12V plug or AC. Thanks for the recommendation, redbirddog.
The Garmin pro looked like good option and can be set up with not-included beeper but that adds close to $200 to the cost. Seems they should package them together in one unit.
Will see how DTS 1850 works out.

Londonshooter - how have you found the 1850? Haven’t had great conditions since late Jan down in our neck of the woods I suppose. I was into the Sport Dog TEK 2.0 with E collar for about a week but had many complaints with the tracking side of it so now in the market for a collar only.
