RMC Hunting club reloading class/mentor needed and questions

Hey all,

I would like to host a little Reloading demo/class this fall for the Royal Military college's hunting club. Myself being part of it, I know that there's a bunch of people there willing to get into reloading, but no one to show us so far. For that purpose, I was thinking of buying the Lee aniversary kit. We might be able to afford a bit more than that, since it might get used a lot, so if anyone has suggestions on what to buy to improve it, with a reasonable amount of money (under 300), they're more than welcome.

Now, what I need to know first is what I would need to buy in order to reload say shotgun shells (if worth it) and rifle shells like 30-30, 303, 30-06 and maybe 7mm and specially where to buy it from !

Second, and way more important, is I would like to know if any one, in the Kingston, ON, area, would be interested in doing a little demo/class for us in the fall for about 15 people. It doesn't have to be long and would be very appreciated. We can talk about the details later.

Now, this is just a project and I'm mostly cheking on the availability of such a Mentor to carry on with my project.

So if anyone is interested in helping us, feel free to PM me or tell me here.

If you're in the general area, why not try a note on the Kingston Gun Club's bulletin Board ??? Off Montreal St., just north of the 401 ... IIRC !

You might also try the local gun dealer(s) ... retail (?) or CGN-er !

And thanks for the advise. Ill try. However, i never got lucky at getting in touch with kingston gun club. As from the gun shops, the closest one is in napanee, about 40 mins from there, from what I know, but I'll double check.

If multiple users will be using your setup, I'd get everyone to put a few more $$ and go RCBS or Hornady. I use the Kit, but I'm only loading two cals and not a pile of rounds either. I use a turret press as well.
 
Forget the dinky challenger press.

Get the Lee classic cast press. It is only $100 and is bullet proof...so to speak.

Call Andrew at Higginsons powders for everything you need. Except maybe brass.

keep me posted with whats goin on in the hunting club...i was a member of the now non-existant rmc shooting club which mainly focussed on handguns...i just picked up a savage in .308 that im gonna work on shooting up to 800yds where available, and want to get into reloading as well for the .308 as well as my glock and others...so id definetly wanna get in on this class if its being hosted. Also, i can talk to my guys at the FRPC on mcadoos lane, they might be able to run a class...lemme kno

I would too like to get into reloading as well. I have no guns yet but from talking to people on here, everyone says get into reloading right away. So this would be awsome to check out.

Also would like to get more information on the RMC Hunting club? Do you have to be in RMC college?

Im willing to learn, just looking for teachers.

Iconix, ill have to chek out with my superiors for membership when i get back there at the end of august. As far as attending such a demo goes, i dont see any reason why you couldnt being there with us Ill try keeping in touch with you on that.
 
Go buy a copy of The ABC's of Reloading. And have a look at the RCBS Beginner's Kit. Gives you everything you need less dies and shell holder.
For shotgun, you'll need a totally different loading set up.
Ask around the club/college. There's bound to be somebody at RMC who is reloading who'll show you how. Mind you, the RCBS site has an on-line 'how-to'. They call it the 'Reloading Guide'. It's on the menu on the left.

Yeah I've seen that. Pretty basic :p. I get it but I'll need more info as for wich powders to use etc. I guess I'll find that in the ABCs.

RCBS starter seems like a decent kit. How much should I plan for dies and case holder?

Do you need different dies/case holder for each caliber ?
 
I was the supervising officer when the club was established.

One of the original cadet members is now on faculty (Mech Eng) at RMC, his initials are MS. A prof in the History Dept was my Mentor a very long time ago and would still be highly willing to help out cadets who want to get into reloading.

a few years ago,i started a thread the same as this one......we had a great turn out of newbies that wanted to learn,a few great guys that were the teachers,and another that donated his house for the day for the event..
i hope your adventure in learning of reloading,turns out as good as mine did..good luck with this:dancingbanana:
