well i took it all apart and sanded down to bare wood,after that i put 3 coats of ebony stain on it,i finished with 3 coats of varathane, gave it a light sand and polish.the whole thing took about a weekto do and cost me about $30.00.

Can't say I like SKS's, but that wood looks real good. Well done, you did a great job!

Very well done. I like the dark colour. It suits the rifle better, and doesn't look so cheap.

I like it, looks more like a Russian one now with the dark stain on the stock. I might look into staining my Chinc one a little darker, like Pharoah mentioned. it does not look as cheap now.

Probably the nicest refinish of an SKS I've seen. Now you've got me thinking of doing the same thing! Excellent color choice too, much more suited to the rifle than stock.

Nice piece pal! Great job. It really gives it some extra quality, and if you ever wanted to sell it...I'm sure you'd be able to get your money back easily. Absolutely gorgeous.

Looks almost exactly the same colour as mine!!

BUT I BUBBA'd mine by cutting off the bayo mount. It was one with the 56 triangle marked on the receiver too..

Another question I have is how did you get that thick lacquer the Chinese use off the stock?
