I have a Stag15 Varmint and love it. I would like to have some versatility and buy a complete upper with a shorter barrel.

Does anyone have some recommendations for a reasonably priced ( read low end ) complete upper. Just for a little casual shooting.

Thanks for any advice as I am still learning about these.

The '90's called, they want their malfunctions back. Even Norinco 10.5's are reliable now (always were actually, with an extractor spring swap) - no need to spend $1500 on an upper when you can get a perfectly serviceable one for $550. Seriously though, the EE? A used upper at only 10% over new?

Correct me if I’m wrong, but the stag varmint is a 24” barrel?

You’re going to need to define shorter, as that really encompasses every other barrel length.

Just adding my voice to say I agree that quality matters, even for a few bucks more. Whether on the EE or one of the Colt Canada uppers at Nordic. Personally I'm partial to Knight Armament but they've never been inexpensive and with the Canadian dollar what it is right now, in the top tier of AR prices in Canada right now.. If I wasn't buying a Knight's, I'd be looking at the Colt Canada 11.5" (same barrel length as the Knight's offering) and then maybe a Daniel Defense.

ETA: The Norinco's are cheap and if you're willing to spend some more money (now or later), you can customize it pretty well. I've shot one's that were pretty good, though I prefer others :)

Many Americans are actually jealous of us that we have the Colt Canada MRR, IUR and SA available, they don't.

The SAS has selected the Colt Canada IUR over any AR in the world under brutal trials and evaluations. Our own CANSOFCOM troops are happy with their rifles.

Needless to say, they have the credentials.
