At my local CT store today for a few things and I breezed by the gun counter. Tucked in a corner of a cabinet was a Beretta A400 Novator. I've done a bit of looking online but can't find a whole lot of info about this particular model.

Does anyone here know much about it? It seemed like a screaming good deal but without knowing more about it, I'm not really sure if it is.

Thanks in advance for any help!

I believe that the Novator was only released to the Euro market. Russia or Turkey maybe?

My guess is about $1400? I bought an A400 Xplor brand new a few years back for I think $1100... not sure why that model was so much cheaper.

Just over $1200 so it caught my eye. Yeah I found some info that mentioned the Russian market. I'm just not sure if it's functionally any different than all the other A400's.

Specially designed for the Russian market ONLY
Good luck finding out what that included or didnot include
Do you intentionally look for potential problem guns. I am beginning to think so
Cheers

Hey, it was sitting in a CT store in a town of 9000 people so I didn't think I was looking at some exotic import. I've sent a message to Beretta to find out what it's all about.

And I wonder why. See some produce seconds, dump odd balls, surplus etc etc and places like CT make offers and buy them up.
Don't think that happens well I remember the calls my father would get when he ran his gun shop being offered such. Yes it is real
In fact some even make special production runs for Walmart or other big box stores with specs changed just enough to make them cheaper than a local gun shop
Be interesting what they tell you but I don't expect they will say too much
Cheers

This time, the company offers the Beretta NOVATOR A 400 . This is a kind of modification of the base model Beretta 686. The NOVATOR was the first to use the 5 + 1 magazine. This means that 5 rounds and 1 ammunition are placed in the store of the new gun.

Specifications:

Beretta A400 NOVATOR is designed using the inertial mechanism of the automation. The length of the barrel of this model was 760 millimeters, and the total length of the weapon as a whole is 1320 millimeters. Caliber Beretta A400 - 12th with a 76 mm chamber chamber. This product weighs not so much for weapons of this class, only 3 kilograms and 300 grams.

For the manufacture of the barrel of this weapon, the best stainless steel in the world was used, drilling is carried out using the well-known technology Optima-Bore HP, which allows you to equip Optima Choke HP with muzzle nozzles.

The Beretta A400 NOVATOR, as well as its predecessor, the Beretta UNICO, is equipped with three hydraulic shock absorbers and a soft rubber butt pad that provides minimal return (horizontal and vertical), reducing it by as much as 60%. Shock absorbers also contribute to the reduction of mechanical stress, as well as give convenience and a perfect fit of the weapon under the human arm.

The length of the chamber of the new weapon Beretta A400 NOVATOR is 76 mm, which allows the use of charges with a weight from 24 to 56 grams of shot and cartridges with a sleeve length of 70 and 76 mm. The predominant characteristics of this product include a high-quality vapor system, a butterfly valve and a new cartridge feeding system into the chamber.

The Beretta NOVATOR A 400 is the optimal shot speed and, of course, the incomparable characteristics of an accurate shot, which is considered ideal for modern hunting.

Oh I'm sure it does happen. I'm just surprised because typically the more established the brand name, the less likely you are to see cheapened product allowed to hit the market where it shouldn't be.

Thanks for the rest of the info. It reads like some of the spam emails I get. I think I'll steer clear of this one.

But the last I checked, the 686 is an O/U.

A400 Xplor Novator was designed to shoot 2-3/4" and 3" shells only (regular and magnum). It has a bigger magazine tube that allows putting 4 magnum or 5 regular shells (in Russia there is no restriction for that). This gun looks a bit different than the original Xplor Unico that has an XtraGrain wood with laser engraving and a green colour action. The Novator forend is also a bit wider. If CT sells Novator that should mean this gun was properly imported by Stoeger Canada and it does have a warranty.

P.S. Novator is just a version of Unico designed for European market. It's not a "cheap" shotgun whatsoever.

The version we are talking about wasn't designed for the european market it was produced specifically for a unique russian requirement/ specification. It is not an xplor novator just a navator. Differences I have not seen published but there are

Been happening for many years. Even Randy W talks about Walmart from time to time. CT here is no different with their seconds or production line rebuilds/ rejects. Many a remington and winchester my dad sold were seconds but at least he was honest enough to leave the sticker on the box so one knew what they were buying. Almost all in those days were just cosmetic flaws and not design changes

Cheers
His words

First and foremost, most of the firearms carried by Wal-Mart stores are the lowest grade available from the manufacturers, and many are "Wal-Mart Specials." The latter are made for Wal-Mart to sell at a lower price than would be available for a similar model from local retailers. Unlike the shotguns and rifles that Sears had manufactured for their stores by Winchester, et al, which had a lot of extra "bells and whistles," Wal-Mart specials are little more than barreled actions fitted to a cheap stock with even some standard features omitted. If you think I am exaggerating, ask any gun dealer (retailer, wholesaler, or broker) and they will tell you that the Wal-Mart special guns have very low resale value compared to "regular" firearms.

Part of Russia locates in Europe if you didn't know. There is no such model as Novator, there is Xplor Novator and Xplor Unico. Don't confuse others. One can be bought here. Discussions and reviews can be found here and here (use Google Translator as these sites are in Russian).

Don't need a BS lesson from you on europe. It was a special order/ spec for Russia ONLY originally and yes there is such a model. Fix the link and yes they had access to the others also in Russia but this was a spec all it's own more set up like a hunter they say
Very little information out there on them. you should buy this one and let us Know :)

Good morning companions
Finding out about this line of shotguns, I find this model Novator, which is not on the official beretta page and of which I have few references. The classic models of the Action and Unico line (because others do not interest me) are not achieved or at least I have not found them.
What differences are there between the Novator and the others, in addition to the color of the box of mechanisms? Same piston and system? What changes does it have?
All the info is welcome ... I am looking mainly for shooting the propeller, and some pigeons at the cross ... to hunt I have another

Hello , what a weird model. The only thing I found on the web is written in Russian, as if they had been written for that part of the world.
It's OCHP 76 chamber and 6mm band, do not know if Steelium profile? , it seems destined to hunting.

Well it's available in the Port Perry Canadian Tire store here in Ontario for anyone who wants it. At several hundred dollars less than every other A400 I've seen, I'm apprehensive about exactly what was changed/left out of this model to hit such a price point. It'll be a hard pass for me. If anyone picks it up I'd be curious to hear a review!

So did they get back to you?? Be interesting to see the manual in this box

Then educate yourself first before you start teaching others.

The link you have provided shows a gun with SKU: A7C24132216010. The link I provided shows the same gun and with the same SKU number. This model is popular in Russia and it's called Xplor Novator. Once again, there is no such model as Novator.

Fix the link

My links are all working. What are you talking about?

you should buy this one and let us Know

Already have A400, had a chance to shoot Novator and already explained what's the difference between Xplor Unico and Xplor Novator.

Jeez, this is the same outcome of every thread you weigh in on. I am astonished that you own virtually every shotgun ever made and always conclude by saying the Maxus or the Gold is the best ever made....then you cheese everyone off by saying “cheers”.
