oto mention that if steel is required, shooting skeet with the 410 is going to get even more difficult.
Especially finding a gun made to do it
Cheers

I was more talking of the environmental trends where by more states are banning or contemplating banning all lead ammo for hunting purposes, as I well as banning lead ammo everywhere that isn't a shooting range. I think California is the only state currently with a state wide no shooting lead into the ground ban, but there are more talking about it.
You'd have to be hiding your head in the sand to not see the writing on the wall.
With Provincial Health and Environment ministries getting involved in inspection of ranges the possibility of a lead ban in the relatively near future cannot be discounted.
California has not lost interest in the ban on lead shot for any hunting, as far as I know.
Yeah, and I know all the arguments - all my old doubles are unsuitable for steel shot too.
The writing on the wall has been there for many many years. If it hits ranges they will be closing a ton of them since shooters cannot afford to keep shooting the volumes they do with lead vs steel.
We had one club switch here and it lasted 6 months and never reopened. Members vanished and those that stayed didnot shoot enough to keep the lights on
Cheers
As far as price, the last steel loads I saw from Kent were right with lead for price and if steel becomes more popular and manufacturers scale up for the demand, the price will work out fine. I do not want to see the end of lead, but if it comes to that I would not hesitate to shoot 7 shot target loads through pretty much anything I use for clay shooting. Mandatory steel will not send me into clay shooting retirement.
I guess compared to what you shoot
I reload and shoot mainly 410 and 28ga. I can just imagine the price of those in steel plus I cannot even buy components to reload them in steel so it will have me move on
Cheers
Let’s hope there is enough of a market to ensure the small gauge clay shooting remains viable.
I generally won't buy a gun unless it takes choke tubes as I waterfowl hunt and need to shoot steel. I definitely see steel as something that will be required in the future, it is a shame that manufacturers aren't jumping on board ahead of the laws that I feel are surely coming. For hunting out of an appropriate gun I don't mind steel, but I am younger so have never had the chance to shoot lead at waterfowl, I don't know the difference.
Just a few more steps and it could be mandated. It's coming to Canada too.

Thanks for the replies everyone.
Correct, I am looking for 12ga. I can't believe someone found 20ga shells let alone 12s...
I buy out Sail whenever they have anything. No Kent or Challenger target left.
Eastern Ontario Shooting Club has the steel shells rule.
I'll contact Kent, thanks for the contact.
A lot of sporting shotguns specify in their user manuals that they are to be used with only lead shot.. A switch to steel shot would leave a lot of shooters with useless and very expensive guns.
And close a lot of our local clubs![]()
Which imo is their end goal. Achieve it by whatever means they can!
I can hear the tinfoil hat comments coming my way already!![]()
This is old but I have to ask . Is it steel shot for the entire range or just the skeet section ?
