Recommend me a handgun.

I'd love to recommend my first to you--a P-08. Sadly, most have gone prohibited, and the restricted versions are pricey these days.

Great pistols, though.

My recommendation - find a range that has rentals, and try before you buy. My last purchase I researched, looked, held, asked, listened and did everything else I could to be sure of my choice - then rented one, shot it and hated the way it felt.

I would rather recommend you a caliber that you should start on. Pick up the handgun yourself. Handguns are most difficult to master, thus you'll most likely use a lot of ammo in the process. Cost of ammo is pilling up quickly exceeding the cost of the firearm many times over the first 2 years of us (assuming that you will actually use it frequently). Once you'll feel confident enough to go heavier and more expensive (less practice), you may leave the land of the 22 lr. Best of luck and enjoy!

Yes I should have provided more information on what i am looking for. I am looking for 9mm, semi automatic. no revolver. The guns I am currently interested in are the Glock 17, Sig P226 Legion or Elite Stainless, HK P30L(preferrably) or VP9, Berreta 92fs Inox, Walther PP2 m2. I know these arent for really small hands. My hands are smallish. They aren't tiny like kids hands or anything they just arent big hands. Trigger Finger tip to wrist is 6.5 inches

Man, this is a wide range. A glock17 goes for about 500-600$ while a p226 legion is a few million dollars (j/k, but a lot more expensive than a glock). Out of your list I'd pick the p226 if the price isn't a question, and I guess overall the 92fs would be my quality/price pick, although I'm not a fan of beretta.

I know it's not on your list, but the best gun for the price currently is the CZ SP01 shadow, by far. It's made for average hands (fits about 75-95% of mens, you're probably into that range) but you can purchase aftermarket larger or thinner grips. But as someone suggested, if you can find a range to try a few guns it would be better.

I'd still go for a 22lr for a first gun though. 500 round of 22lr is 30$, the same amount of 9mm is ~125$. When shooting is new and exciting, it's fun to be able to shoot 500-1000 rounds/week without breaking the bank.

From your list, if you want a polymer striker fired gun, the Q M2 would be my choice. Best trigger of the class, above average accuracy and also IMO, the best grip.

If you want a metal DA/SA gun, I would second VinnyQC and go with a Shadow SP-01. But you can’t go wrong with the 92FS or any SIG 226.

As a newbie, you might find the safety on the 92 or the decocker on the 226 very reassuring. The cocked and locked carry or dropping the hammer for a DA start on the CZ may be a small issue if you’re not confident.

There really is not a bad gun on your list. Comes down to price, looks and subjective feel for you.

go to a range that rents - try as many as you want

this is kind of like my first car, computer, wife, house, boat, dog (feel free to add what you want) question.

The biggest issue and why i am on here asking this is becuase i am currently house bound and will be for a little while longer. I want to buy a handgun before a potnteial ban comes into effect. I dont want to get caught without one and regret it. I am sure if there was a ban that owners would be grandfathered . But this is why iu cant go try out the guns myself. IT sucks.

Is the Glock 17 the worst for small hands or is the Berreta and 226 worse?

Any list on biggest to smallest?

IMO jsut from reading etc. Biggest to smallest grips and trigger reach

Glock 17 Gen 5

P226 Elite Stainless

Beretta 92fs Inox

P226 Legion

P30L

VP9

Walther PPQ m2

Am I wrong?

That’s pretty accurate there. I have a 226 elite and it’s not great for smaller hands. Need to adjust to hit the mag release. I have a cz shadow which is pretty darn sweet and I must say I bought a Walther just to try and it’s been absolutely amazing in every way for a inexpensive gun.

?

if money is the issue - buy a Tokarev - chinese, russian, polish, yugo - if it is just to own.
I would be looking at a Girsan MC28 or for a few more dollars a Canik, all which are reasonable and the commercial sponsors would be more then willing to sell to you.

^^^^ A great answer...

I am not interested in buying a .22 no matter the reasonsing. Just want a 9mm. I wish Amazon sold guns so i can buy and then return them without hassle for free f they didnt fit right lol

There are gun stores where you can hold various models and ranges that allow you to rent.

If you're buying a handgun just to be granfathered in case of a ban, you are sorely mistaken. You don't wake up one morning and guns have been banned in the middle of the night without a warning. The whole process to change the law takes months, and there is usually a period of a few more months after a law has been voted before it takes effect.

Now if you're still worried, then don't buy anything that's on your list. Either get a TT33 for ~250$, or even better, head to the EE and get the lowest priced broken lower that's still registered as a handgun. There's no reason to spend up to 2500$ for a gun that will never leave your safe anyway. While you're at it, get an AR lower too, because if a prohibition happens and current owners are grandfathered, you can bet there will be 2 classes, one for handguns, one for ARs.

If you're still set on getting a 9mm handgun for whatever reason, know that there is usually 2 criterias to choose a handgun:
1-Its characteristics are good for my usage. For example, if you're a cop and are gonna carry a gun every day for 25 years, a light weight, small polymer handgun is better than a heavier steel gun. On the other hand, if you're gonna participate in ipsc, steel firearms are usually a better fit. Given that you're gonna leave yours in a safe, every possible handgun is good enough for that.

2-It fits my hand. And that is 100% subjective. No one's hand is made the same, and how you like a given grip is mostly in your head anyway. Even 2 person with the same hand size can have different hands (large palm/small fingers and small palm/long fingers might measure the same). And it's not just the size of the grip, it's more about feeling. Nobody can tell how much YOU are gonna like the grip of a gun. That's why a shadow makes a lot of sense, because there are so many aftermarket grips that you can go from tiny hands to large bear paws with that gun. There is even more choice for 1911, but a 1911 in 9mm of the same quality as a shadow will cost you a LOT more than a shadow.

So there you have it, now do as you want, it's your money, but it seems to me like a p226 legion locked in a safe is a sad thing.

Buy a Glock, we can all go home now.

Why? Because nothing beats it.

Also, the concept of “fit” is a fallacy used by people who just don’t take the time to practice shooting.
Unless you’re Shaquille O’Neil and have hands the size of umbrellas, or you’re the guy who did the Burger King whopper commercials with the itty bitty hands, any and all handgun will “fit”, it’s just a matter of what you’re willing to put in to become a successful shooter.

Buying handguns is a pleasure whether you shoot them or not.

Now i suggested a S&W Model 19 and it's good, but i recalled that my wife favorite handgun is my Dlask Glock 19 gen 4, cant go wrong with any 19.
