Dillion introduces the RL1100 and will discontinue the RL1050

I have to stop reading on it for fear of creating a new need.
Must repeat to myself, a 650 is good enough, a 650 is good enough...
 
Super 1050 will no longer be produced. The CP2000 and RL1100 will be released for sale mid to late spring apparently. I was looking at adding a couple of new Super 1050's when I was talking to the Dillon rep and he suggested I hold off for these new machines. I like the Super 1050 because of all the aftermarket support for it, I am waiting to see if the parts that matter to me are interchangeable from the 1050 as they work between the RL and the Super. IE, shell plates, index pawls, etc. Once they started talking about the CP2000 at SHOT 2018 I figured that there would be a press to match it. Everything seems to have about a 10 to 15-year span before a complete refresh and I think they had started to see a lot of potential based on people putting auto drives on them, and what they could do with them.


The lineage of these machines is interesting if you follow it at all

RL1050 - I have seen two iterations of these pass through the shop during mid-lifecycle design improvements (added grease fittings, parkerized finish instead of chrome / nickel plating)

for just a tad more than a Super 1050 or the new RL 1100 you can get a 10 station Mark 7 press that is far better built
 
I have a friend that's been reloading longer than I've been alive and he gave up on Dillon after they discontinued the RL1000 and switched to the RL1050.

Dillon basically threw all the RL1000 owners under the bus and stopped supporting them.

Now it looks as though history is repeating itself.

Thanks for the tip, Slavex. I think I'd consider a Mark 7 before I ever got a Dillon (other than an XL650.)

Sticking to my LNL AP. Not much spare time to shoot or load anyway to justify another press.

Yes, but in my case where I consume parts and am burning up 1050 presses. It is a non-starter. I asked Mark 7 about parts support in Canada, and the general availability of spares and they couldn't provide me an acceptable answer. Their autodrive system for the 1050 is fairly good, but I learned long ago that proprietary doesn't work in a commercial setting without a strong logistics chain behind it.

If this is ever something holding you back from a 1050 / 1100 - it shouldn't
Personally used - The machine really doesn't break parts, and I've often found Dillon to just say "what the heck"...and send replacement parts free of charge anyway.
Mine's running on a Mark 7 motor (Ponness Warren before that) and other than some simple wear parts worth less than $10 - I've had no issues.
Approx. 25K rounds a year get produced on it.
 
Dillon's warranty is certainly the gold standard for the 550/650 etc. How many other companies can you name have a 'no bs warranty' which essentially warranties against wear and stupidity (you break it, they replace it).

On the 1050 warranty, the commercial reloader should budget for some wear and tear as part of his or her business expenses and for the non-commercial reloader who appreciates the engineering of the 1050, leave it to your kids with a $100 bucks to refresh a few wear parts.

The Dillon Super 1050 reloader has been designed as a commercial machine. Our expectation is that its life expectancy will be in excess of two million rounds of loaded ammunition. All Super 1050 machines are warranted for life from defects in material or workmanship, plus a one-year, 100% warranty against normal wear. All electrical/electronic components in Dillon equipment are covered by a one-year warranty

Naturally, user experiences will vary:)

I’m seriously thinking about selling my xl 650 and going to the mark 7....10 station over a 5 on the 650....and 10 over 7 on the super 1050...I don’t reload a lot but I like the idea of setting up the press for one calibre ...everything on it and just go .....the 650...1050....change this do this....change that and do this
