9.3 x 62 Who's familiar with them?

K As the title says....... Just picked up a 550FS in 9.3 x 62. Heard about them for the last 40 years, but not overly familiar with them. All I know is Dies, ammo, brass, and bullets are not in-expensive. Just in that category, I'm into it for about 700.00 bucks already. But that's probably just me being a little excesive, compulsive. Anyway, just curious what you fellows have and your experiences with the cartridge and any loading thoughts you may have.

I bought an FN 98 Mauser based Husqvarna, PPU 285 SP and PPU brass from Trade-Ex. Since bought some 286 Partitions and 250 Accubond. Used Big Game powder with the 285/286's and Varget with the 250's; worked up to the load recommendations by John Barsness. 3 x 3 shot 3/4" groups while sighting in at 100 yards with Leupold M8-3x. I consider it a nice step-up from 30-06; my perception is that the 9.3x62 with 250 grain is milder recoil than factory 338 Win Mag 250's, even though the velocity is nearly the same - maybe it is just that the stock fits better ...
 
Reloading components are not pricey, RCBS and Lee both make dies, Hornady and PRVI make brass, 286gr PRVI and Speer 270gr pills are not expensive.
Tradex has everything you need.
 
Quite easy to reload for, not pricy to shoot, even with PRVI factory ammo but you can reload it better.

Almost a 375 H&H for a bit less kick and trouble.

I didnt have mine long but moose hate it lol
 
PRVI or Hornady brass, Nosler, Barnes or Woodlieghs bullets and a medium burning powder. I’ve killed 25 head ofAfrican Plains game with mine, from a 20 lb Steenbok to a 1800 lb Eland
 
I run 58gr H4895 with 286gr Hornady SP-RP and 59gr with a 250gr Barnes TTSX. The 286 is going 2500 fps and the 250 is just under 2600 fps. However, I've had terrible accuracy with the Hornady (3" groups at 100y) and the Barnes has been doing about 1.5" with Husqvarna iron sights. I want to try 285 Lapua Mega and 250 Accubond next. My pressures are definitely above the CIP spec of 56k psi but the fired brass and extraction are similar to factory 308 ammo in my Savage. I believe I'm running around 60k psi. COL is 3.29" for both.

Funny thing about the 9.3x62 is that it's as common to find range brass in Finland as it is to find 30-06 in the scrap bucket here. My dad picked me up a bunch of Sako, Norma, Lapua, and S&B brass. Probably the same in Sweden and Norway.
 
I have had many 9.3X62's over the years, including; Ruger No.1-S, M77 MKII African, a couple Husky's and a couple Sako's. My affinity for the .35 calls and .375 calls, is always the undoing of my 9.3 aspirations. Having several .35's and a couple .375's renders the 9.3's pointless... and this is where someone jumps in and says, one 9.3 renders the other two pointless... in classic CGN style. ;)
 
I have had two, I only needed one so I sold the other.

I like it, 286 grainers hit hard, and not much for hydrostatic shock damage. Elk and deer don't didn't go far. I would recommend them, but a little hard to find ammo.

I picked up 250 NAB's to reload with but havent gotten around to firing off all my factory stuff yet. Apparently hot loaded 250's can get pretty close to 30-06 factory 180's

Buddy has one. He uses some kind of European factory ammo (S&B maybe?). Says it literally knocked his last moose right off its feet.

One could argue your statement as well. Having more than one style of rifle in the same calibre is pointless, but what would be the fun?
As my wife says "you can only shoot one at a time to which I counter, I bought you two horses, you can only ride one at a time" (riding both at once renders one with a broken pelvis).
I have the CZ550 FS. I load with Lapua brass, 285gr Lapua Mega's, CCI 200's, and 63gr H414, COL 3.236". Put 5 into a ragged hole (0.64") at 100yds off the bench.
Nice rifle to shoot. More of a shove than whack!

I like variety in my chamberings, but I have very specific preferences in the platform version... have tried most brands and models over the years, and have settled on what fits and feels best for me... I shoot 15 or 20 different cartridges, not because one necessarily does anything different from another, but because I like loading and I like shooting, so one or three or ten, just aren't enough. When it comes to hunting deer sized game, there are just too many choices in the safes... so I draw them purely on whim. For moose or guiding the suitable options narrow down... on most extended trips I will have two to four rifles back at camp.

I guess that's why I have multiple 7x57's, 7x64's, 8x57's, 300WM's, 223's, etc. One is never enough!
Each shoots differently with different loads. The fun and frustration is getting to that point where load meets happiness.
Getting back to the OP's thread title. Great choice!
 
Great carbines I have one....two loads and super accurate. The bull in the picture was taken at 50 yrs running at me during BC calling season 2008 with a 286gr Partition.

After seeing quite a bit of info on the 9.3x62, ;) .366 Wagner, I decided to get one. In preparation, from a guy at a local gun show, I picked up a set of RCBS dies and a generous supply of Lapua brass as well as a sizeable quantity of 285gr PRVI bullets. In addition, with thoughts of load testing in mind I accumulates a decent supply of other bullets and about four boxes of once fired Norma brass. I like the full length wood Mannlicher style, when in European calibres so I ordered an 'inexpensive' Zastava from Trade Ex to 'play' with. Basically, with the initial accuracy results I obtained using handloads with the 285gr PRVI, I haven't ;) YET played around with any of my other bullet selection.
