Went down to my local gun shop and was going through sks’s and found what looked to be a brand new as issued 1954 ishvek all numbers matching. This is the best looking sks I have ever seen. I have to buy it as it was a steal at $375. Will post
Some pics tonight.

I wish I was that lucky. I've found some decent SKS's before but nothing in the condition or price you describe.

An incompletely stamped diamond on the receiver cover indicates that your SKS was refurbished either in the 5th GRAU arsenal in Alatyr or in the Turkestan Military District in Solnechny in the former USSR. And you don't really know which pieces are original and which are not.
It's gonna be a nice shooter anyway.

When they refurbish do the re stamp the serial number on everything? I have a 53 Tula refurb and and the bolt was scrubbed and a the rifles serial number was electropenciled where an old serial number was. The only electro penciling on this one is in the gas tube.Every other piece retains the original stamped serial number so I am guessing this is possibly a refurb lite....either way it is the nicest sks I have ever seen.

It might have went through a refurbished process but nothing was changed at all...has all the original pieces

Stock, bayonet, gas tube (and likely piston) were replaced for sure. Can’t tell if the rear sight is black (orig) or grey (replaced). Also can’t say about any of the internals.

Izhevsk Factory Stock Stamp

Revising an older post here...Nice find you have there... Pinkyplinker is correct tho , the stock has been replaced during refurbishment and stamped with the matching serial.. And that's fine as it's an arsenal modification , (at least to some of us). However I found a proper Izhevsk stock photo as it was issued just fyi.

Izhevsk are rare than Tula.
Looks like it is. All my SKS are Tula. For Mosin and SVT-40 equal chance they can be Tula or Izhevsk.
I assume AK-47, AKM, AK-74 etc were constantly built in Izhevsk from 1947 and this took the majority of the resources.
