Hey Guys,

The retailer sent me the picture of the bore of a potential replacement 1949 SKS. To me the bore looks good but would like second opinion before accepting. Now remember the 1949's are not chrome lined considering this and the cost close to 700$ what are your thoughts? Good enough? Thanks!

im sorry, but I find it amazing that you haven't even pushed a rag through the first one to see what you have, and your asking if this one is better or ok? why not simply clean the bore of the first one and see?

this one looks bad to me.

did you push a rag through the bore of the first one yet to find out whats what?

It was badly pitted with faint and dull rifling, patches came out dark red with pieces of rust. It cleaned up ok but the pitting was pretty bad and the bore was pretty much shot out. This potential replacement seems decent a little frosty. Would appreciate second opinions.

I did not see that you had cleaned the first one. I guess I didn't see that, because you didn't post that you had cleaned it, until now

i Saw on the first page of your other thread that you had cleaned it and found the barrel in bad shape. Honestly if you want a good replacement I’d look for one with a chrome barrel. That’s what did after I got tired of cleaning my gun after shooting and then a follow up cleaning the next week to be safe. Now I don’t even shoot corrosive ammo

I’d be fine with the new one, I received a Mosin and an sks with a dark bore before. Rifling was good and not pitted, after a good scrubbing with solvent and a brass brush it brightened up a bit. After a good 2-300 rounds at the range and a second cleaning it was mirror bright, a dark bore doesn’t really concern me as long as it’s not pitted and the rifling looks good. You’d be surprised at how clean it will get with some ammo through it, mine was a 1950 iirc and not chrome lined.
