Hey guys

Any of you fellow know the spring pressure on the stock recoil spring for the Norinco 1911A1? Mine is brand new and im having weak recoil spring issue and was wondering the stock one strength to grab a stronger one. Pistol has a full lenght guide rod if that change something

I have had 10 or so nork 1911 guns. I have got a couple that had week springs. I was lucky, I had spare parts, some stock, some Wolf. Its a little hit & miss with these.

Its my first 1911 and i have no spare part, kinda why im asking i dont mind ordering a stronger spring but i have no idea at how much spring pressure i should look for

The original 5" barreled 1911A1 (in .45ACP) uses a 16# recoil spring. The original 4 1/4" barreled Commander (in .45ACP) used an 18# recoil spring.

You say that you're having a "...weak recoil spring issue..." What is happening, exactly?

Got a 5” barrel, that mean i have a 16lbs spring right?

Issue are once per mag the slide doesnt come back with enough strength to strip the round and go into battery. A very light push to the slide give it the little bit it lack. Also spent case are thrown way too far, found some as far as 20 feet behind me. Im no expert but those seems like the kind of thing a weak recoil spring would cause

Is it the same round every time? Does it happen to be the first one? If so is the last round hard to load? If you are using the mags it came with they are not the best quality get a good quality magazine don't cheap out. If it is the first round it could be something as simple as the feed lips are sharp and the mag spring is a little strong. I had the not chambering a round properly problem with a few LAR pistol mags so had to use the forward assist on the AR on the first round then the gun would cycle fine. You could see the scratches on the brass where the feed lips were digging in. Take the magazine apart and use a file, stone or dremel GENTLY to take the edge off.
You will never get consistent ejection or distance with a stock Norinco pistol. The extractor and/or ejector need to be adjusted or replaced.
You probably paid $400 or less for the gun. You can't expect Colt performance.

The FTF is random each time. It was never the first tho. Im not expecting colt performance im simply trying to fix what look like a weak spring issue. Anyway this is not the point i was asking for the stock spring pressure and i got it so now im gonna see if swaping can make these little quirk smooth out thanks

What did you expect from the Mainlanders?? Quality control is not their strong suit.

Did i complain? I was asking for a spring technical spec that is all.

Norinco's ejectors are very long and routinely throw brass in the Beta Quadrant; the springs are not necessarily to blame.

Get a 16# replacement (for GVT model) and see if it corrects the problem.

Which ammo do you shoot? Do you feel like some rounds are weaker?

Thanks will try replacing the spring. In any case it doesnt work its not loss, spring are a good thing to have around

Shot some UMC 230gr fmj. Other than being dirty i did not notice anything unusual about the ammo. Only shot a 100 rounds and it was my first time with .45 so if there was anything i dont think i would have felt it anyway

Check out Wolff Springs. They sell a number of 'calibration' spring packs. You may want to start with the factory weight as others have suggested then work your way up.

ht tps://www.gunsprings.com/index.php?page=items&cID=1&mID=1&dID=1#803

They list the factory weight and also list extra and reduced power springs.

They ship to Canada too.

Great thanks, saw those on brownells but had no idea if i needed the low power, extra power or if they just shipped to Canada. I will be ordering a kit thanks for the link.

I probably have one kicking around here I can send you. Norc (and SAM) have notoriously out of spec springs.
Let me dig through the pile...
Yeah, I got an unused Wolff 16lb, and an 18lb, take your pick, send me a PM where to send it. No charge.
