My new hunting rig, Tikka T3x

Tikkas have a notoriously long throat in them. If you reload and want to seat the bullet out a bit you should look at a replacement bolt stop. They limit how far back the bolt will travel. They use the same action for 223 as they do 270. Just a different bolt stop. I dont know how the dbm interacts on a tikka. Might work might not. My 7mm08 t3 I can seat a 150 eldx to 3" and the mag limits it to 2.850.

Nice looking rig! Over all I like your concept for this rifle, a hunting rifle that has a larger cap mag for when you are at the range, just watch barrel temps especially in the warm weather. I recently picked up a T3X in stainless/synthetic in 6.5CM. I am looking for a different stock as well, not sure what I want at this point but I might try a laminate. I have had several Tikka rifles over the years, they have always proved accurate and reliable, a couple I have built into semi custom rifles. One is my match rifle, chambered in 6XC, it sits in a McMillan A3, topped with a Razor Gen II, very accurate rifle, I made first round hits at Meaford on the long plates last year and I was very pleased with that. I did break the bolt stop pin on that rifle during the match though-that is the one and only problem I have ever had with a Tikka. It made for some interesting stages afterwards as I had no bolt stop!

Well I finally decided to upgrade my hunting rifle. Had a Ruger American for the last 5 years and I need something with a bit more class now ;)

So after weeks of research I settled on the Tikka T3x Laminated Stainless and a Leupold VX-5HD 3-15x44mm

Also thinking of ATLASWORXS BOTTOM METAL and the Leupold 2 piece rifle mount.

Anyone have any other suggestions for me before I start buying this stuff.

That will be a HUGE upgrade.

Mine shoots very well regardless of the jump. One ragged hole regardless of seating. Factory ammo, reloads seated to the lands...it doesnt seem to matter.

He can swap the bottom metal/mag if he needs to seat longer as well as the bolt stop.

Funny you should mention that because that's something I've just discovered with a T3x 22-250.

Here's a picture of what I found. The left one is loaded for my old Savage .020" off the lands. The right one is loaded for the Tikka .010" off the lands.

Well this is interesting :- ) Hopefully Go Big Tactical can get me one !

Tikka rifles are great. If only they made 'em with a hinged floorplate. The plastic single stack detachable magazine (on a hunting rifle) is a deal breaker for me.
Opposite for me but I also switched to a Howa this year from 5 years of Tikka T3. No more mag.

So I guess last night while drinking I ordered the Seekins precision SRS rail. Woke up this morning to some new CC charges...lol...

Looks great.

I thought you got the Atlasworks AICS bottom metal? That looks like the Mountain Tactical I just put on mine.

And I have to ask - why cut the barrel down?

I decided last minute that the factory bottom metal was a better idea since this is a hunting rifle. I did purchase 3 extra 5 rounders for range sessions.
I also dont like how high my scope sits so I ordered the DNZ lows to drop that scope a bit more for better cheek weld.
I dont need a 22" long rifle since I won't shoot game over 300 yards ever. And Velocity between 22" and 18" on .308 isn't worth talking about. Tikka should offer these lightweight in 20" threaded.

All thats left is to get the barrel Cut down to 20"

I agree with the 20 inch barrel, it’s very handy when your walking through the thick Ontario woods. I have a T3 in 308 in the way that will be taking a trip to the local smith for that very reason
