It may be 73 days, 13 hours, and 40 minutes until wild turkey season opens here in Ontario (who’s counting) but to hear these birds this morning you’d never know it! I set up this morning, half an hour before legal light, for coyotes and little did I know I was practically sitting under a flock of about 25 birds! Watched them fly down shortly after I recorded this. April can’t come soon enough!

been watching the same flock of 9 all winter behind my house.. bonus was a few days ago there were 9 turkeys staring at a coyote about 20 yards away from them... the coyote stood there as the flock passed. 560 yard from my house, but i got to watch through the spotting scope

When it comes to bird hunting, I can generally take it or leave it. I do some, but my interest is pretty casual.

But turkey hunting is, of course, not bird hunting in anything other than name. It's the one thing that I miss about the province of Ontario. I have no turkeys near my current home, but I follow the turkey hunting threads here with rabid fascination. Love those birds! :)

Turkeys had been making their way north in ON. My wife saw one just south-east of North Bay last year.
After this brutal winter of ol' time snow and cold, I think their advancement north may have been halted.
Wonder if it's stopped the wild boars from venturing further north?

You get it... :)

This guy gets it!

Cool video and audio.
I am passionate about turkey hunting as well, and that video got me in the spirit again.
The fly down cackle is a great gobble trigger, but you're right, this is about 3 weeks early

I was out this morning and heard some chattering and gobbling in the distance. I’ve been capturing quite a bit of action on my game cam this winter and I’ve regularly seen a group of about 50 birds wandering about. April cant come soon enough...

im pretty sure they have a calendar set up right outside my property...... before the season, 20-40 in my yard on a regular basis. opening day till closing.. not a damn bird in sight... they literally go around my place and to my neighbors. he said this year after he gets one, i can hunt his chunk so that should drastically improve my odds..
