Was just thinking to myself the past couple of days that I just cant wait to get out for bear. Being a resident of "Canada" :bangHead: (Ontario).. Unfortunately, we are not privileged to have a spring bear hunt. Yes, Quebec has one. However, I don't own land there, can't afford an expensive guiding trip etc!

So I get my fix in September! It's been a year, I think I've learned more then I did last year, already planning out shooting angles, my tree stand, how high I want it this year! I'm still scouting looking, we know at least of two places where we could tag but you always scout looking for a bigger one, right!!!

Am debating which gun to take out.. calibers: .270 or 30-06 (I think really the 30-06 won it because its the :eek:BEST ROUND EVER MADE:eek::eek: :)bangHead::bangHead::bangHead::bangHead:) am thinking a couple inches low @ 100 yards this year due to the ranges I'll be shooting at, anyways..)

I know which brand of factory ammo I'm buying this year (How is Hornady factory ammo?) I still need to buy a better blaze vest, maybe a hat but yeah. I can't wait.

How much have you guys planned so far?

Have not started much yet, going to start the baits this weekend. You might want to reconsider buying a blaze vest though, I hunt bear in full camo.

Good luck

The 270 is more then enough, but then again its shot placment and which ever gun feels better in your hands.

Broadheads are sharpened, bow it tuned, shooting is up to par, bait sites have been maintained since july 20th, stands will be hung tommorow, tag is bought, shooting lanes are trimmed, camo is descented and packed in giant freezer bags.

I'm ready to go Aug 15th. hopefully the heat takes a flying god damn leap by then.

I'm going to drive out to the side of a mountain. take my .308win, and go for a walk. try to shoot a nice med size one out of a berry patch.

about all the planning i've done...

My planning for bear is similar. Grab the 30-06 or 45/70, drive out to a cutline or bush road, go for a walk.

Shoot a bear (hopefully) and try to get the truck close to it.

Just heard some disturbing news today.Apparently there was a slaughter of Black bear at the land fill site in Opasatika sanctioned by the MNR.Ten bear were shot and
bulldozed into the landfill including a 600+ trophy bear and
assorted young bear cows and cubs.I myself think it a terrible waste of the meat and skins not to mention illegal.
Also Timmins has passed a resolve to cull the so called
nuisance bears which is another way to slaughter them.
Bring back the spring bear hunt and let the hunters harvest
the excess bear population.Timmins also plans to trap the
animals and euthanise them instead of taking them out to
the bush 50miles and letting them go.I think the hunters of Ontario should petition the government to reverse the
Harris governments law of banning the spring hunt and give our Outfitters back the other 50% of their income.

I doubt none would ever eat a bear from a dump or even get it classed as a trophy.every dump across north america has a 600+ bear in it

The problem is the citizens of timmins are fed up. I saw a news report the other night where a reporter went around asking people on the street what they think should be done about the bears problem. All said the same thing.

"Well, I wish they would bring back the spring bear hunt but we all know thats not gonna happen, so lets cull the herd."

Everyone would love to wait for the bunny huggers to get mauled and change their point of view on the issue but something needs to be done now!

Last Wednesday I watched the North Bay city police shoot a really nice bear 50yds from the front door of our office. Dickwad Ramesy promised to reinstate the bear hunt before the last election, hopefully the elderly population that refuses to vote anything other than liberal in the Nipissing riding will remember that come fall.

Yeah, can't wait for Sept 1, the spring bear is almost gone :evil::eek:

JK!!! Sometimes it's as much fun anticipating the hunt as the actual hunt is!!

Good luck
