Hog Hunting in Canada???

I have never actually seen any pictures of hogs anywhere in western Canada....heard all kinds of fishing stories about this and that. I have heard that there are lots of hogs in northern Alberta, as well as along the border near Cranbrook in BC. Have also heard about hogs around the east end of Harrison lake, again..all stories with nothing to back it up.
 
Alberta has fenced hog hunts, but as for the wild? Guys hold those as secret as their elk and sheep spots. Wish I could point you in a direction but I haven't heard of anything but the fenced hunts.
 
There is a fenced shooting preserve (can't call it a hunt if it isn't fair chase) north of Montebello, Quebec. The French name for a boar is sanglier, and the non sponsor facility has a name like ranch-amerique . Good luck.
 
I wouldn't be asking hunters who will almost surely not give up any spots - and definitely not on an open forum - I'd be asking farmers who want them gone.
 
I'm pretty sure you can (or could) hunt them year-round with no licence or limit in Manitoba. I think they are in the east/south part of the province, including vast crown land.

Others here will be more up to date them me.
 
Southern Manitoba is ripe with hogs. They’re smarter than your average prey though.
Was talking with a gent at the dog park the other day. Last fall, his nephew who was hunting deer at the time was charged by a large boar. Was able to shoot it in time.
Sandilands and Sprucewoods are the best spots to go.

I wouldnt call southern mb ripe with hogs at all. Been looking for some for 10 years

Perhaps that's the wrong phrase. There are hogs here in MB, but they're mainly nocturnal, extremely leery, hard to locate and absolutely no one shares their specific hunting spot. Damn easy to track once you've found a sounder though.
Ive' come across them in both Sandilands and Sprucewoods.

Posted on Alberta Hunting Addicts....NOT a hunting farm!! I have a co-worker who has taken 4 in my area and I’ve seen one piglet(size of a medium dog) while working on a well lease a few winters back. There are definitely some out there.
 
Farmers & ranchers are the only ones who will enthusiastically tell you where to find them... anyone else that wants to hunt them will never share what they know because they want them. Wild boar are smart, I had my eye on one I spotted while travelling but had no rifle along. I told 1 guy about it and he blabbed. When I went out scouting so were 3 other guys and that hog was long gone
 
As it’s an invasive species They where paying albertans per head a little while back but i think the dropped the practice due to lack of popularity.
Tons of hogs in Alberta, I think there is even a hog tracker app where people report sightings.

They breed like rats and can do serious damage to crops, wild animals and livestock, I think many folks would enthusiastically share info on sightings as these hogs are almost as bad as the Asian carp (koi/goldfish) destroying our waters.

Being all hush hush over 1 hog lol
It’s not like it’s prized deer... this is an envasive species we are talking about, folks in the states use armored dogs to chase them out of cover and they shoot them from helicopters because there are so many.

Very true, they need to be eliminated, but if someone gets word, all the idiots come out of the wood work, looking for them. That was the problem around here and land owners were Pissed. The local herd was quietly dealt with and are done. :)

I was listening to the MeatEater podcast a while back and someone claimed they are coming into North Dakota via Canada. Seemed like an odd claim considering wild hog numbers don't seem to be all that high in Canada. Has anyone else heard of this?

Awesome! I admit that I don't wander the internet much so there is much I dont know about this topic. I have always kind of hoped that these hogs were out there but having never actually seen any, just kind of shrugged it off. Thanks for the pictures.
