Hog Hunting in Canada???

I have yet to see a wild hog is sask and the I live where the most black dots are. None in spring,summer, fall and winter. In winter iam out on snowmobile 2-3 days a week and have not seen any tracks nor in any other time of year.
 
The amount / numbers have been blown more than a little out of proportion by these researchers.
Of course, it is in their interest to maintain their study funding, and that only occurs as the problem "escalates".

My Lady & I have friends and relatives living in most of the areas in question in Saskatchewan.
And a great many of those (most) are ranchers & farmers.
They tell a slightly different tale regarding the numbers out there.
I tend to believe those on the ground over any university based "researcher".

Feral wild boars are a noxious pest. Don't be wishing for them.
Huge sums are spent in the US trying to control them, without success.
The latest research shows they are a possible vector for Chronic Wasting Disease, in addition to all their other negative qualities.
 
This site describes the gentlemanly the way to go when the wild boar move in. I remember a play where an Irish terrorist picks up a book on the gentle art of pig sticking by Rudyard Kipling and saying something to the effect that it meant the British would never leave Ireland. That is the ground truth that I don't see in the study. The study had only two physical proof components - bounties paid in Alberta and heli-tagging. The other measures are passive or worse - vernacular. The quote citizen science unquote is not very reliable. The other problem I have is the area depiction using RMs and watersheds. Both seem like cartographic dishonesty to me.

Back in the days of Scout Camp we where told of stories of wild hogs in the Hemlock Valley area and the valleys' of Harrison that domestic hogs escaping and roaming the wilds.
Aint ever seen any there.
But, near Nazco BC there are some seen on a regular basis that escaped from a farm that was off grid 30 miles in the bush off of Bazeekio Rd.
I posted some pics a few years back just down the road from Sylvia's Store.

I've seen a few in Alberta , but I wouldn't call it an epidemic . I have property on the North Saskatchewan river , west of Edmonton . I've seen exactly three in 15 years . They are there , but tend to stay in and around the river valley . There is a group of them around the Genesee Generating station , unfortunately , it's not open to hunting for safety reasons . Long story short , they're here , but not in the numbers reflected in the current news stories , other areas may differ of course . I do know of a few that were taken in the Mayorthorpe area over the last few years , I even ate some , but again , few and far between . The Mayorthorpe animals apparently got loose from a commercial boar hunting location that used to operate in the area . I was talking to a local F&W officer who worked in the area , according to him , there are a lot less in the area than previous years .
 
A friend of mine whacked this one west of Edmonton by Niton Jct. last year while deer hunting, he said it tasted just fine.

A few have come out of the Carrot Creek area , one that I saw taken there looked just like this one , pure European Wild Boar .The shooter lives about 20 minutes from Niton Junction , small world . Nice animal , tasty too .
