A sad sad day for revolver owners in Canada

How would we send our pistols to Smith in the U.S. For work? Is there a Smith &Wesson office in Canada where we could get it exported and brought back?

Nope. That's why Murray C was the aurhorized service depot. There are ways to send a gun to the US but I believe it involves a lot of paperwork. (Alberta Tactical Rifle hasn't told us yet what the procedure is). The other catch is whether S&W will accept them. They would no doubt say, "We have a a Canadian repair depot..." Which is reasonable enough if the Canadian depot is up to scratch. The only way they might (eventually) relent is if there were enough complaints about Gretch, which may or may not occur.

Well, the smiths I have are not new, so, if I can't get them serviced at the factory then I need to find a very very very good Smith in Canada, I will be paying either way, but, it will not be Grech, I wouldn't sent a sling shot to them!

Aside from free warranty work, who else was the go to guy for admirable revolver work/trigger work?

I don't even know who grech is but it seems odd s&w would give them the warranty work if theyre as shady as this thread makes them out to be. If thats the case why even trust s&w themselves if they cant/dont pick and choose a highly revered company?

S&W doesnt give a rats a$$ about what we think. In fact, when the new Cdn Sales Mgr was questioned at SHOT as to WHY Grech was selected given all the documented problems with warranty work with other manufacturers using them prior, he simply replied "who else if not them". My reply.."anybody else". Clearly they either did not do any research prior, or have no interest in having their product sold with reliable post sale servicability.

Maybe they really don't know of anyone else?

I find it hard to believe that a company with so many retailers doesnt have a clue as to who would be capable of doing their warranty work. If they are that incapable of determining candidates, I have no respect for them. I guess they dont know how to ask their distributors who they would recommend or solicit info from other sources. I find it extremely doubtful that anybody would suggest Grech given their track record. :(

If Gretch is as bad as comments here suggest (and I have no idea as I'd not heard of them before), perhaps we (CGN) should compile a list of alternatives for S&W in case Gretch does turn out to be a disaster. S&W will have no idea unless there is useful feedback.

Well that sucks ... glad I just bought an Alfa Project..6" stainles in .357 . I'll let u guys know how it holds up . so far after about 80 rounds and new wood grips , its a beautiful accurate revolver.

Grrr. I just picked up a 629-3 months ago that needs some minor work and I was thinking of MD Charlton, but this changes things. Anybody have any recommendations?

What sort of "minor work"? Peter Riedel at Rusty Wood (.ca) here in Mission is pretty good.

Savage and I believe Remington use them, among others, cheap, but they are terrible to deal with and take forever, I had one of the savage 10tr with bent barrel, took over a year and still no fix, so had to rag on savage till they gave me a new one, 15 months all together! Plus I had to pay the shipping to grech! A list of very good gun smiths who specialize in smith and Wesson would help!

Agreed. A list that's stickied to the top of the pistol form is a great idea.

Slight bend on ejector rod, possibly needs an oversized hand fitted

Ejector rod probably no problem, but oversize hand... I'm guessing anything requiring parts will be a PITA unless it goes through the official Canadian distributor as others won't be able to process a warranty repair :(

It's a dash 3, so it's 90s vintage. No warranty. The oversize hand can be got from brownells if needed
