I wonder if plastidip would work, as I am torn between the wood classic look or black?

Plasti coat can be peeled off sure the original wood finish would be okay?

Its a handguard and a pistol grip. There is going to be constant contact and friction between it and your hands. It'll bump into things.
It'll partially peel off in no time and will look crappy. You'll have to peel it off completely and will have lost time, money and effort in the process.

Do yourself and your guns a favor and don't be a plastidippin douche.

Youza.

1. Israeli Fab Defence Hand grip for VZ58-minimal filing and voila, it belongs to T81 now. Handle is a bomber for large hands-those finger groves are awesome, feels like I as born with that handle. Donno why CzechoSlovakians created such a small handle... they live in central Europe-so decent size Slavic tribe.
2. Storage compartment is huge!!! Cleaning kit will go there instead of stock storage. Besides, the original cleaning kit compartment looks just odd and as Russians say about fighter jets: "only beautiful jets may really fly & fight effectively", I guess same applies to the former comblock firearms.
3. Need side rail and para-cord; already found non-metric drill/tap sizes to get those three AK style mount bolts to hold the mount (will share details after side mount is installed)

so as a summary I have so far:
1. gas tube cover=sks ati strikeforce stock
2. handgrip=factory, VZ58
3. handgrip=after-market FAB defence VZ58 handle
4. buttstock rubber pad=some cheap Chinese manufacturer

It now needs a side mount and one of those new fandangled Russian optics from AI Tactical Solutions. And possibly a muzzle brake or fake can!

Do not understand why type 81 doesn't come with this easy side mount or at least holes pre-drilled&tapped... such an easy thing to do.
Also do not understand, why importers do not do their homework and do not bring this cheap side mount rail to Canada.
Ultimate failure for optic options from the manufacturer & importers/ sellers.

Anyhow, here is a cheap & easy to install, and presumably steady side mount for TYPE 81, which doesn't compromise any of the stock function.
Total price is under 50CaD (provded, that you have some basic tools in your garage and hands growing from the correct place).

I may install this for you if you bring it to my garage :)

Part 1

Part 2A

Part 3
coming soon

Standard AK mounts also fit and they also allow use of open sights.

CONS of standard mount: But standard mounts elevate optical axis 5mm higher and 5mm to the left.
PROS of standard mount: At the same time, some standard AK mounts allow better approximation of the optics to the eye, decreasing eye relief and increasing dominant eye field of view

Part 2B:

Awesome work!

Thanks, hopefully distributors will propose this skin as a "Tactical" (I hate this word as it is misused)/ "more ergonomic" (I prefer this term) mode of T81. This mode is minimally bubba (leaves just three small M4 screw holes in the receiver if one would like to roll things back), besides, that side mount plate looks AK74-ish, so it is questionable if that is really bubba :)

Cleaning kit except biggest piece of the cleaning kit box are in the handle
Handle also accommodates to ALLANS for the side mount and red dot. There is enough room in the handle to host some batteries/ matches (max 10).
The stock pouch doesn't count as it doesn't formally belong to the rifle, but it may easily host 20-30 rounds, biggest piece of the cleaning kit box, matches, flint, compact LED, compact multi-tool etc, so if you are up for SHTF preps-you'd like this mode
