Aside from the obvious.........

Larger clip and threaded barrel. Is there any other differences between the CTR vs Varmint that I am missing.

It would be nice to hear from folks who have shot both.

I am looking at SS 24" barrel in 6.5 creedmoor.

i own one Varmint, and one CTR. Both are excellent in terms of accuracy. I like them both for different reasons. Get what you want and enjoy!!!

Varmint is heavier from the barrel... I prefer the CTR when calling or packing. From the bench, both are good with a slight edge in feel from the varmint, but the CTR is no slouch either.

I have owned three T-3 varmints, and I currently own a stainless CTR with 24" barrel in 6.5CM. The CTR also has a metal trigger guard. The CTR has a slightly lighter contour barrel. All four of my Tikkas shoot sub 1/2 moa for five shots at 100m, with my handloads..

I believe the CTR comes with rail as integral part of the receiver, yes? (And would you know if it has a cant?)

Where did you buy your stainless CTR 6.5CM? (I'm seriously considering buying one.)

Thank you.

Thanks for commenting. I was curious about the weights.

It's not so much about the weight per se. But the varmints are REALLY nose heavy. If you look for a gun that can balance well in any position, bench, prone, standing, seated, I would gravitate to CTR. When in the field off my tailgate and calling, either one works, with the Varmint being the fav.

To summarize, if you have support all the time when shooting, the Varmint is tough to beat.

If you don't, get the CTR. 20 is very nice, 24 is pushing it, both of my CTR's are 24's

I own a Tac A1 and a Stainless steel Varmint . The one feature I really miss on the Varmint is threaded barrel. The Tac A 1 has an excellent 2 stage trigger. The Varmint has a nice single stage but I still prefer the 2 stage. They both shoot excellent!

I purchased my CTR from Prairie Gun Traders, they are the only dealer that I found that stocked the 24" stainless version. Apparently most dealers stock the 20" black versions, because so many shooters want the tactical look. I am using the factory rail, I don't need a 20 minute rail, but I have heard the rail is difficult to remove.. As for the threaded muzzle, I detest brakes, so the cap is loctited in lace to keep it from coming loose.

Is it true that the factory 0-moa rail on a CTR is epoxied ( in addition to the screws ) ?

It's held down with four locktite'd screws into the receiver and two pins in the rail that are seated into the holes on the receiver. I got mine off, took a couple whacks with a small rubber hammer to get the pins to come out of the holes. I put on an aluminum 20moa from Talley, currently have the CTR's steel 0moa on my T3x 22cm

After handling both, I prefer the 24" barrel, and the extra 100fps is certainly not a handicap.

Def buy the CTR Brake. Noticable improvement in groups for me vs unbraked, and my reloads were single digit SD. FWIW. Some don't like brakes (me among them) but I could not argue the results.

congrats on the 24". I debated 20 or 24 as well, and glad I went 24. Rifle balances well, looks the business. Short barrels on some rifles look great, and others not so much.
