Hi,

I was thinking to add a 357 revolver to go along my Winchester 1892.
I really like the look of the model 66 with the mate stainless.

The model 66 have the update forcing cone and the 2 pieces barrel.
The review seem hit or miss with the QC ( finish flaw, burr in the end of the barrel).

Any advice on the lately s&w production?

I am a newbie in the wheel gun!

My first and only wheel gun is a model 66 combat. Been great for me. No issues whatsoever. Double action is a little heavy but man that single action is nice. Handle it before you buy if at all possible.

I also have the new S&W Model 66-8 Combat Magnum. Quality has been great, I have no complaints, love it.

I bought one not too long ago and it has been great. Unlike autos I make sure I check my revolvers out in person before purchasing. Do a standard revolver check and make sure the two piece barrel is aligned properly. My only complaint being the front sight. I don't like it at all and it's slightly more difficult to change because it's pinned.

P.S. As previously mentioned the pull on this revolver is HEAVY but reworking the OEM mainspring is easy. Just remember not to go too aggressive or it might not set off hard(er) primers. If you reload then you can go pretty light with Federal primers.

Two defects to watch out for on the 66-8 is barrel index and burrs on the crown.

Other than that your good to go.
