Adding a 6.5 creedmore barrel to a bcl 102...what’s needed

What do I need to change to swap my bcl from .308 to 6.5 creedmore? Just the barrel?
Never done this before so any tips would be appreciated.
Also any barrel recommendations? Hoping not to add too much weight.

Just finnished mine you will need a barrel and a gas block and tube if they are sized differently than the stock barrel. A adjustable gas block is nice so if you do need to get one spend the extra$$ you will be happy you did. Also buy or borrow a set of go no-go gauges. I bought the barrle nut tool and a reaction rod from true north arms they are great guys to deal with. I'm in kamloops if I was close you could just use mine.

Lol jiff nailed it. It's not half bad for a cheap scope the clicks on the turret are mush but the redical is good and its ffp so good to use the marks at any power.

Yep the bolt is the same. And if the barrel is in spec aswell as the bolt you should be good to go. I have not heard of any out of spec bcl bolts. So really only a gas tube if you are changing length. Just make sure your new barrel is the right size for your gasblock.

Spend the money if you want but in all honesty I wouldn't bother. Unless you're an experienced long range shooter you won't see any benefit going to 6.5CM.
Inside 800 yards there is nothing the 6.5CM does that a 308 can't do and I highly doubt many people are buying these to be their 1000+ yard precision rifle.
6.5CM ammo is more expensive as well if you're not a handloader, and there are a lot less option to choose from as well.

I own 2 rifles in 6.5CM (a semi and a bolt action) and while I think it's a great cartridge I doubt I would buy it if I didn't have plans to shoot it 1000 yards or more. The only real benefit for the average shooter is that it has slightly lighter recoil than a 308.
If you swap barrels and start printing tighter groups it's not the cartridge, it's the higher quality aftermarket barrel that you're getting the results from.

Just my opinion, feel free to drink the CGN cool-aid though and spend a bunch of money "upgrading" if that's what you want to do.
If I was putting money into a 102 I would stick to 308 and go with a quality aftermarket barrel.

Thanks that makes sense. Was just going to change it up a bit...but no point I don’t think with these. Better to do a bolt for 6.5

I think you're right on that one.

It's fairly easy to get a semi auto to run 6.5CM cleanly but it's easier to get 308 to run right since the rifle was designed to run it.
My 6.5 semi hates 139gr Superformance factory loads, it crushes the brass and makes wild groups but then using the same projectiles in my handloads it runs perfectly (hovering right around 1 moa) and I have no issues other than I'm down on velocity compared to the factory offering. I've also swapped a JP captured buffer spring system with the heavy spring in it and I've also added an adjustable gas block to be able to tune it better (haven't tried factory ammo since changing out parts).

The biggest thing is that at the distances most people are most likely to be using their AR-10 class semi auto there will be no benefit to running the 6.5CM. You'll just be paying more for ammo to do the same thing as someone running a 308, you also lose the option of grabbing a case of surplus to have some cheap ammo to play with.

I would however still suggest swapping out the barrel if you want to improve accuracy, a quality barrel would benefit any rifle.
