The Freedom Ordnance FX-9 OWNERS thread.

I'm trying to make mine, my own as much as possible. Magpul ACS stock and miad grip, a converted 223 muzzle brake I had modified to fit the barrel profile, hiperfire 24c trigger (well over 1000 rounds without issue now), waiting on my pcc specific carbon fiber handguard to get north of the border :). And been playing a lot with heavier buffers and springs, from h3(5.4 oz ) to a pcc specific 7.5oz buffer with ar10 springs.

Is there a purpose to trying the other springs and buffers or just playing to see what works and what doesn't?
I wasn't really paying close attention when I was shooting the one I played with but I didn't get the feeling the system was out of balance.

Just trying to smooth it out for faster follow up shots, in theory it should also provide a bit more velocity as well with a longer delay. IMO a standard carbine buffer is a bit to light for a blowback action like this.

That's what I thought, just seems like trying to make a feather hit you softer, lol.
Keep us updated, I'm not sure what my factory built 9mm AR uses, maybe I should have a closer look. It's kick is so gentle it's the rifle I usually introduce women and children to semi auto centerfire with. :p

Any updates from anyone for drop in triggers that work perfect? I see CMC release a 3.5 lb PCC style trigger group. But I cant seem to find anything that people say works well.

Haha, yeah yeah "it's just 9mm, what if it was a real caliber" and all that. I dunno for speed, if I can make it move even a few inches less at distance with every shot, it's just a little bit faster time on every stage. The things people have been doing in uspsa with their pccs and the products that have been introduced as a result I find very interesting. As a whole the platform is an inexpensive one to tinker around with without breaking the bank, I'm even investigating ways to make it into a side charger since the charging handle leaves a bit to be desired haha.

There is 3 or 4 of us that use the Timney 667s trigger and have no problems, one person said they did but admitted it was their set up problem. Trigger works perfect for me

I hope you can find a combination of spring and buffer for it. My 9mm AR is my favorite PCC out of all the ones I've owned (the HK USC with 9 inch barrel was pretty good :p).
I did similar treatment with my G-21, running a heavier spring and my handloads had it cycling so smooth. I did a CQB course with TT and ran my 45 as my pistol, I don't think it slowed me down at all compared to my CZ SP-01 or my G-17. I have an even heavier spring for when I install the 10mm barrel :)

My experience with this little pcc has me wanting one, just hard to justify another $1000 toy when I already have the AR and a Vector.
My buddy with the FX-9 and I went head to head at 50 yards on the dueling tree with him on the FX-9 with a 1-4 and me with the Vector and an Aimpoint PRO. I don't think either rifle gave an advantage over the other. The plates were flying back and forth until we ran out of magazines, lol.

There's just something about pcc's that's so much fun, especially on dueling trees haha. I have to say that being nr for me is nice as I can take it anywhere and plink, but if I do find myself shooting more and more matches with it I'll probably invest in an AR 9 just to get a shorter barrel maybe try some other parts and concepts.

When you're ready to build that 9mm give the guys at Tier One Armoury in Edmonton a call, I was in yesterday and they had everything imaginable in stock to build a sweet little 9mm AR.

I've owned quite a few PCC's. I usually get bored of them since I find almost no practical use for them but for some reason I keep buying more of them. This Vector is the third one I've owned, something about them keeps dragging me back.
Now that these are available though it would be like having my favorite PCC non restricted. Living on enough land to shoot on is kinda pointless with restricted toys which is why my 9mm AR hardly ever gets used any more.

I'm curious how these are going to run when dirty. My 9mm AR rarely got cleaned when I was shooting it more often and it just kept going no matter how many rounds I put through it. It used to easily run well over 1000 rounds without cleaning and I still can't remember ever having to clear a failure of any kind. I hope these are similar.

I 300 rounds the other day through mine, one stoppage which may have been because i didn't have the gun shouldered firmly.

Only other issue was that the BHO got gunked up and stopped working, I think this was more due to me over-oiling the gun and the oil getting down in the BHO mechanism and attracting all the carbon.

to you fellas that are wanting to try different springs and buffers an all that watch out. ive had the bolt come back to far and sheer off the bolt roller ontop.

I cleaned mine well at about 300 rounds, when I changed the trigger. Since then I've only wiped the bolt off quick and applied oil been running like a top for over 1000 rounds. I would be interested to see how long it would take to fail without oil or and maintenance, but it's still pretty new and I dont wanna be overly mean to it haha.

Thanks for the heads up.

So what do you attribute that to then ? Too short of a replacement spring ? Wrong buffer ? What was the ammo being used ? Wondering what spring / buffer combo you used ?

not a strong enough spring, and an undersize buffer. from what I can gather. my own fault. the bolt came back far enough that the bolt roller hit the back of the lower receiver and in 3 rounds sheered it off

I have a couple of hundred rounds through mine with the CMC 3.5 lb standard trigger and had no issues. What a difference over the factory one!
