Hello there i'm a real newbie with scope installation so I have a little problem here. I have a Vortex Diamondback that I would like to mount with Leupold 1'' scope rings on my rifle. But when I try to put the top of the rings on the scope, it look very tight and i'm not sure if I got to force it or maybe something is out of spec ? Thanks.

The top half of the rings should just push onto the 1" scope tube. Bummer is, they may scratch the finish on the tube...

My favourite rings lately have been the Weaver Grand Slam steel rings.

Do you have a small bubble level to get the rifle level & then scope?

Cheers
Jay
P.S. I used a small bubble level similar to this one.

If you put a couple of Hex keys(tight fitting) through the screw holes on opposite sides of the ring and then squeeze them together, they will hold the rings open till you can slip them over the tube without scratching it.

^Good tip!

Ok thanks but it is normal that is very tight ? I watch some video on Youtube and the ring look to fall without pushing it. And yes I have the exact same level than the one pictured.

They look like Leupold PRW type.
The tops of the rings go past center on the tube, this is normal.
If you do the Hex wrench trick you will not scratch your tube and the rings will fit perfect.
Good luck!

I buy quality stuff and if I'm using the proper sized rings they just snap on over the scope tube.
Don't do any of that lapping stuff.
Never saw a need for it and never had a problem with accuracy when using quality scopes, bases and rings.
I'm sure Warne, Leupold, Swarovsky and Talley know all about machining steel parts.

When installing that type of ring I wrap the scope below the ring mounting area with a five dollar bill, then proceed to push the top half of the ring down over the scope, the bill removes easily once the ring has seated and prevents scratching of the scope tube

The older generation of Leupold PRW rings are as you describe, they have since been replaced with a newer design that slips easily over the tube

That paint on the Leupold scope tubes is pretty tough stuff.
I just snap the rings scope onto the tube and haven’t had any conspicuous scratches.
Not like your mounting and dismounting the scope a dozen times a day.
When I mount a scope on a rifle it usually stays put for years.

Horizontally. I dislike vertically split rings & only have one set, never again!

Most of my Warne rings are like that.
Fantastic rings.
Most of the ring problems are from too much armstrong.
People need to follow the torque specs listed by the mfg.
I’ve seen scope tubes crushed to the point of freezing the adjusting mechanisms inside by overzealous tightening.
A torque screwdriver is indispensable in scope installation.
