5mm rimfire mag

Think they out sourced to mossberg on that one lol

The winchester high wall was a nice looker but if im buying a single shot high wall it wont be in a rimfire that uses blanks from a nail gun

More ammo is on the way and Canada Ammo should have some in the spring. I have a Model 591 and 592 that were bought by my dad in the early 70's. It is a great round and we took many Yotes with them back in the 70's. Thousands of Gophers lost their lives with the 5mm as well. I still have about 700 rounds left and will be buying more when it's available. I bought the last brick Can Am had a few years back, but it was pricey at 300 bucks per brick.

Has the ammo been confirmed ? they've been saying it for couple years now, lol. That last brick came from my supplier I only got 350ds from him and should have got 'er all in hindsight! There was some around here and there at the time, nowdays scarce for sure.

Got a reply from the MNR:

Hello:

Thank you for your inquiry.

As of January 1, 2019, a number of changes to the hunting regulation (O.Reg. 665/98) have come into effect. The prohibition from using or possessing a rifle of greater muzzle energy than 400 foot-pounds while hunting small game in an area during an open season for big game has been removed and replaced by a prohibition from using or possessing a centre-fire rifle. This can be found in subsection 77(1)(a). The new 2019 Hunting Regulation Summary that will be released in April will reflect this change.

Well that would stop having to explain ballistics to a co. If ammo comes available and savage or others make a decent bolt gun im all in

I suppose now there a little bit of a market for a rim fire even more powerful than the 5mm. Anything out there pushing 223 performance in a rim fire?

As far as i know the 5mm was king as the big bore rimfires are all but gone. Ive used my 22mag on coyotes with great success but usually calling and ambushing them on frozen creeks. I dress in white and hide on or in the snow along the bank and shoot them on the ice.

There are several 5mm rimfires on the ee but i wont buy one untill i can stock pile ammo first.
If new ammo comes and a couple manufactures jump on a new rifle maybe itll have a chance. The 22mag saw a huge resurgence after the 17hmr came out. Now that the 204 ruger is solid theres hope for a 5mm

.223 performance? What have you been drinking? Share? :)

Not EVER gonna happen. A case that can be fired by pinching the rim, isn't ever going to hold upwards from 45000 PSI pressure.

I see the 5mm's on the EE too. Won't even consider them until the prices drop down into the 'donor' range, rather than the 'collector' range. Pretty nice $175-$250 guns! Or less. At least until there is a RELIABLE supply of ammo that can be had, and even then, at $30 a box maybe still not!

I put a Lilja barrel on a Ruger 77/17 WSM, Jard 1lb trigger and bedded into a Boyd's Pro Varmint. It is scary accurate and far exceeded my goals for a WSM.

Very interesting. Shooting a 20gr pill?

My one hold out on the 5mm rem mag is the fact that there are a lot of good 20cal center fires that would be easier to feed once you get the reloading setup, and they can go from mild to wild depending on the case used... I just couldn't justify something so scarce without any way of making my own...

The 20 and 25's are both amazing. **Below targets are 100 yards**

First target with new barrel.

Reshoot some of the promising lots from the first target.

Sorry for the threadjack......I do have a 591 and 3 rounds of ammo. I'm hopeful whoever brings in Aguila gets a LOT of this stuff in. I'd pre-order a pile so I could enjoy that old Remington.

I'm relatively sure that PGW Steve has forgotten more about rifles than I may ever know. But, I have a hunch if one were to shoot a factory CZ 527 Varmint in 17 Hornet using Hornady 20gr factory ammo, that same person would be less inclined to try and get a rifle in 17 WSM to shoot well. I know...centerfire/rimfire...but my 527 shot so well with factory ammo (under 3/4" @ 100) that I put load development on temporary hold. Ever since. lol

Sorry to get sidetracked on the 5mm discussion..
